Good job with the video.
Thank you for taking the time to double check the chamber and magazine to be sure it's clear.

They didn't point out that they were intentionally different, but from all the discussions I've heard, it's best not to release the slide full-force if it's not going to be picking up a round from the mag. If there is a round to pick up, then slamming it home should not be much different than how it normally cycles while being fired.

I haven't had my XD that long, and I have cleaned it twice. Both times, I was saved by the video on YouTube when it came to reassembly. I have now bookmarked that page. Doesn't it seem a little strange that the owner's manual tells one how to disassemble but not reassemble? And it isn't just the reverse because I would never have gotten the part about pulling back the slide and locking it before pulling down the disassembly lever, then releasing the slide. So thanks for the video, and I am back in business! By the way, I am loving this gun. It took a little getting used to after my unfortunate experiences with a Bersa that I would have liked if it had worked, but now that I learned how to hold my XD, I must say that I am rapidly improving my shooting at the range.
