both of my new xd-9 service mags hold 17 cartridges. will this damage the spring over the long haul? or did i just get lucky with the magazine?

It's designed for 16 and all you are doing is compressing the spring upon itself. My own personal thought is to load 16.

There should be little or no tension loss if you only pack in what its designed for...

I always load my mags with +1. My 9mm hold 17, my .40 hold 13, been doing it years with no ill effects.

thanks everyone! i'll probably just stick with the 16 +1 in the chamber to be safe and not stress the spring.
