Do I Need to Clean My XD40 After Shooting 50 Rounds?

I just shot my XD40 for practice last week (put about 50 rounds through it) and I was wondering if I need to clean it or if it's OK to leave it. Thoughts?

Most modern powders are not very corrosive, so in reality it should be fine. My brother NEVER cleans his guns and it drives me crazy, but they always function 100%. I enjoy cleaning my guns so I break them down and clean and relube after every range session.
It would depend on how long I planned on leaving it like that. If I shot often I wouldnt worry about it. If I was putting it up for a long time, then yes I would clean it.

Dear God yes! Clean it now! It might not function if its dirty!

You actually should clean it after every round to ensure that it fires correctly each and every time!

Fraid so. In fact it is even getting dirty just laying there ( think about it: lint, dust, cat hairs ) you should go clean it right now and keep it submerged in a tank of Hoppes or CLP until you have a clean shot at your target.
( MPC I hope you have poked around here enough to know the XD cleaning question is a hot button between normal people like me, and crazy gun cleaning people. )

No you don't have to but the more you shoot without cleaning the more time you will spend cleaning when you finally decide to. Why not start a good habit right now? I know a lot of people will tell you XDs are designed to run dirty but any mechanical device will work better clean and lubed.

+1
I always clean my gun when I'm done with it on the range. Sometimes it's a pain, I get lazy..but eventually I make myself do it.

That's really a question of personal preference. It's know that your XD will function a little dirty, but do you want to not clean a weapon that could save your life?

Just take some break-free, spray it down, wipe it off.....it can literally be a 45 second process.

After 50 rounds if I wasn't going to carry it, I would't bother cleaning it just yet. 50 rounds and it probably doesn't even look dirty.

Yes, I saw that when I did a search through the threads. Some guys are crazy!

I think I will clean it- just a quick "boresnake" (I think I have one of those) and a wipedown should be good.
