Touching up the Melonite finish on a XD
I saw this posted on another thread but since no one responded, I will give it another try. What would be the best way to touch up scratches in the Melonite finish on a XD? According to the poster in the other thread, the Birchwood Casey Pen does not stick (color is correct but it will not stick).
Since I am a newbie Thanks in advance for the help!!!

The black coloring on the frame is not the melonite. Melonite is a treatment that penetrates the metal several thousands of an inche deep. For the black finish try a sharpie.

Like agalindo said, the Melonite is a treatment on the metal, and not the black finish itself. I vote to leave the scratches as is...they are just character marks and that is a good thing.

Blue Wonder
I used Blue Wonder on a scratch that was all the way to the metal and was able to match it so I can't tell the difference.

I think I too remember this thread... If the scratches are really bothering you that bad, recoat the gun. I think I suggested to use Cerakote. I talk big about it, because I have it on several on my guns and mags. When there is a scratch, I just use my thumb to rub it out. Unless of course your dragging it down the road behind your car, then I would recommend Rhino liner!!! What about fingernail polish???? There should be a color to match it... I don't know, I have never looked!!

Thank you guys for your imput. I apologize for asking the wrong question. I was under the impression that the black finish was the Melonite. My bad. Please, look at the picture below. The piece that has the scratch on it is the round piece right below the barrel (I apologize because I do not know the name of this part!!! I am a newbie after all!!!

Rogue. What is Indian Ink (is this it India ink) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia I posted on that thread but since no one responded at the time I decided to create a new thread (I also had the impression it was a different issue).
Regards, Jerry
