Don's Guide Rod Installation
Ok, I got my DGR and spring in today. I have two questions:
-I assume the bushing just slides over the rod? Whats it for? -What is the little tiny spring for that it came with? If anyone has any pics of one installed, that would be helpful. Thanks

put the bushing in the slide, in the hole that the rod will stick through. put it in so that the raised part faces towards the target. mine almost clicks in, and will stay in unless i push it out...i like to seat mine with the back end of the guide rod before replacing the barrel. then put the spring over the slide and pop it in! function test and you're good to go.
that little spring is (iirc) a spring of some sort for a 1911, and is useless with the xd.

ok, did you get the bushing in the slide ok?
that's first. now, remove your stock rod assembly. set it aside. put 1911 recoil spring onto the new guide rod. the FLAT part of the spring has to go to the 'head' of the new DGR. put other end of spring into the hole near the new bushing, then start compressing it. the DGR will poke through the bushing, and you can put the flat part against the barrel.
