break in period?
is there such a thing as a break in period? if so how would one go about breaking in their xd?

No such thing. Do like BigMetal says and just go shoot it.

Sort of, not like an AR or anything. The only things that will get "broken in" that you will notice will be the captive spring and the slide release spring.

thanks guys....i didnt know if it was like having a new rifle and having to shoot a few rounds through it and then clean it and repeat. this is my first handgun and i have put 50 rounds through it since i bought it monday 8-18-08. hope to shoot it lots more this weekend
