Dry-firing will, in some instances, help the trigger action a bit. I don't dispute that.

It also gets you real familiar with a particular gun's trigger and I suspect that has a much effect on how the trigger feels to you, as any smoothing of the interacting parts which actually occurs.
Agreed, and your article covers that ... But for those who won't click your link ... I just tried to clarify things a little, and should have been a little more clear on the intent.

From what I've seen of these kinds of questions (break-in?), the posters seem to question whether there's a time of careful usage before they can just go at it.

It's a funny question, actually.

The answers people give mostly have to do with how long the gun will take to operate smoothly.

"Do I need to be careful breaking it in" is answered "No."

"Is there a break-in period" is answered "well, it takes a while to smooth out, but it will around 500 rounds."

So there is no break-in, but there is a period of time during which parts wills smooth out and mate better, and the trigger will smooth out.
More agreement ... I know a guy who builds race engines for a living, and during a conversation I asked him how break in really works ... His answer was really simple ... once the cam is properly broken in you should be able to nail it and have no problems. If you do ... You did something wrong.

That cam break-in equates to a fitment process of mating parts under high RPM and stress ... It's different than the motion and speed of gun parts moving against each other ... But the basic premise is the same ... If it was done right and a gun part did not have a flaw that was missed during assembly, there is no reason to baby it.

Yea, I agree semantics are the issue. Break-in as a smoothing of mating surfaces does not mean you need to baby it.
