Dealers: On-line or local?

I understand that there are sponsors that contribute to this site and that we should try to purchase from them when possible. Is there a list of sponsors somewhere?

I haven't found any on-line dealers that are considerably lower in price compared to my local shops. Once you factor in the FFL transfer fee, you pretty much offset the tax saving by purchasing out of state.

Do you folks have favorite on-line stores for wholegoods and ancillary gear? I know about pistol gear (great site) and a few others but I know I'm missing some good ones. I'm mainly interested in weapons pricing or should I stick with my "local" dealer?

I aways believe in supporting your local gunshop whenever you can...especially if they are giving you competitive pricing, but sometimes online deals are hard to pass up.

Alot of times getting your gun locally can be a benifit, one guy I knew was having some trouble with his revolver (seems like the new lock was making his hammer stick), instead of sending it directly to the Manufacturer, he brought it in to where he bought it, the smith took a look at it and sent the gun out to get warrantee work done on thier own dime.

At the time I bought my sub9 from gunbroker I save about 100.00 over in town prices.

I have http://www.impactguns.com/store/index.html bookmarked as a reference point for gun pricing, as well as info regarding which manufacturers are selling which models. I've ordered accessories from them before, but was not really impressed with accessory pricing or delivery time.

I still purchase most of my guns at my local dealer, although I've found that Cabelas in Dundee or Gander Mountain in Novi have better pricing.

Supporting a local shop is great if they have a compairable price. It never hurts to ask a dealer if he will match (or come close to) an advertised price you see online. Although I have never had a dealer say he would match the price. If you go the online route then find a good FFL like Randy Cosby at NW Houston Tactical

Gun Shows worked for me.

You get near-Gunbroker.com prices or better without the shipping and FFL hassle. You just may not find what you need. The best bet is to call a dealer who will be at the show beforehand and see if he can get you a good price for what you want. If the price is right the dealer can then bring it to the show for you to pick up.

I try to support the local guys and the local economy when I can. If the price difference is just unreasonably large, I will do the transfer legwork and still give the local guys their transfer fee.

I am an Ops. Mgr. for one of the dealers listed above, and I'll tell you this:

Sometimes it's a better deal to get your guns locally from your dealer. You get to handle/inspect the goods before buying, and sometimes the prices are comparable to what a FFL transferred gun would cost you. I like going to gun shows, but often I'd have to drive out of town to go to a good one. If it's something I can't get internally through my company, I'd gladly pay the same price at the local dealer if the price of the gun plus ga$ comes out to be the same when buying at a gun show. Also, sometimes I don't want to outright buy a gun, but trade a gun. Yep, I'm the guy walking around with a sign taped to my back! Test the waters before throwing your money down. Guns are not cheap, they are a significant investment.

On the other hand, sometimes the local guy is charging an arm and a leg to cover his overhead costs (rent, employees, electric, insurance, etc.) plus make a meaty profit afterwards. In this case, the online dealers become attractive. My company was founded on the frustration due to this kind of overpricing.
