Please don't listen to this bafoonery. Anyone who's ever taken a handgun class or shot USPSA has (in the fatdumbasse's words) slammed your mags into the ground, concrete, rocks, asphalt or whatever is below during a (non-tactical) mag change. Such is the the life of a mag. Fatman must only practice mag changes on the carpet in front of his TV. He needs to get out more.[/quote]

I shoot several matches (one IDPA match is in a sand pit) a month and practice at least once a week (1500-2000k a month) and have never had a problem with mine or my son's magazines (qty 12). I do remove the bases and swap them once a month, but that is just good maintenance. I think the quality is ok it is just the capacity that SUXS.

I like the polished mags because they slide easily. I hate having to pick out the magazine out of say, a 1911, with my fingernail because I can't get my finger on it. But, as far as practicality for law enforcement, I'd consider myself ignorant to the XD's design for their needs. I'm just a civilian.

Use more caution in order to protect the mags. Use a mag pouch to carry them, use a rag to wipe them, spray them occasionally with silicone. Clean them for God's sake! Don't hold them under the sand when you load them. Use a condom, use a hanky, use a sock.....oops wrong foreplay. Uh I mean forum.
Sounds like you are either screwing with our forum or you are screwing up with your firearm being in the gravel. Either way I don't think that the mags are defective. XD's are tough but they have specific working tolerences and must be maintained just like any precision mechanical equipment. I know that when the M-16 was being introduced into use during the Viet Nam conflict, soldiers who were not familiar with it's tight operating tolerences, condemned the weapon because it would jam constantly. Further study showed that during "full auto" use, carbon would build up quickly around the bolt area and the lubrication was being absorbed. A simple change in the formula of lubricant along with regular interval cleaning allowed the mighty M-16 to rise to fame. |

All right now
For whatever reason, everyone (especially OEF) seems to have this idea that I will be damaging my equipment during practice, not maintaining it, and then using it on the beat when I get there. To those of you that think this, give me a break and stop the Morning quarterbacking.
As stated before, my XD will not be my duty wepon when I am employed, so the fact that I have damaged those mags is irrelevant, even though they are fixed now anyway and cleaned regularly. My only point was that in a life or death situation, you should not be concerned with where or on what you are throwing your empty mags when you need to. I have other mags that I did not even use for my qualification that have never seen the ground and are not damaged that I keep specifically for my personal defense mags, that is to say, the ones I will use in a serious situation if need be at this point. Most smart people who have to carry a firearm for a living know that you should not carry damaged equipment, because it can mean your ass. I am one of those people. A typical duty belt carries one firearm with a magazine and a double magazine pouch. If you are in a situation where you have exhausted all of that and are looking to reload mags (not that you would have an extra box of loose ammo on you anyway), then you are in a world of **** anyway, and a damaged mag is the least of your worries. OK, I admit I get a little carried away sometimes. But it was in the interest of safety.
Centermass don't let anyone's post count intimidate you. It just means I enjoy coming here and talking to people. Nothing more, nothing less. Some people see a high post count and immediately freak because they think they have run up against one of the big guy's on the forum. Not true, not on this forum. I've learned a lot here, not only about guns but people as well. But as you've learned sometimes things can get a little rowdy here. No big deal it happens. |

no sweat
OEF
I am not intimidated by anyone here, and your post count does not affect me whatsoever. As you can tell by my register date I have only been here one month less than you, I just usually do a lot more listening than talking (you know, the whole two ears one mouth philosophy. Call it "lurking" if you want to.) plus, if I said everything I wanted to when I didn't agree with something said on here or other forums, I wouldn't have time for anything else. I just felt it was neccessary to clarify/defend my original post since it was apparent that assumptions were made, possibly even one assuming that since my post count is low that I have no idea what I'm talking about. I'm not a person who generally says stuff without being able to back it up. I enjoy belonging to this forum (and others as well). It is full of great information and fun people who are all different in their attitudes, experience levels, mindsets and beliefs. I think we can agree that most of us here seek nothing more than the utmost in safety when it comes to firearms handling and use and a common enjoyment of the XD line of pistols, and that's all I expect from it. No offense taken or intended. |
