XD Complete dis-assembly
Is there a (free) resource out there for complete break down instructions for the XD? Thanks for any help.

Springfield Armory XD and HS2000.com
here you go. i recomend doing the dissasembly and reassembly inside a clear trash bag your first and second time. it may be harder to do but you will never have to look for a spring or part that flew off |

Perfect thank you both, and thanks for the clear garbage bag idea!

The hard part isn't getting it apart, it's getting it back together again. Let me make one suggestion as someone with this experience fresh in his mind. As you remove a part, reinstall it right away, to make sure you know how it goes. Maybe two or three times if it's something a bit odd like the striker safety lever. And ensure that you have photos from online and the schematic handy, so if you forget which way a spring goes, you can refer to something. You don't need a ton of tools to accomplish it. I have 1/16, 3/32, and 1/8 punches, a pick bent in the shape of an "L" to remove the extractor, a small hammer, and tweezers (for me, with my fat fingers, it's necessary to get the striker safety lever in place.). To reassemble, you'll need a Q-Tip (you'll cut the shaft to serve as a slave pin to reassemble the grip safety), and a 5/64" piece of wire for the same purpose to reassemble the magazine catch. Both of those are explained in the online resources (the Qtip in HTown's, the 5/64" piece in my own). The post on "disassembly" at XD-HS2000.COM is a great place to start. Study it. Then, go to the stickies here: Latest HS2000 & SA-XD FAQ & Stickies - XDTalk Forums - Your HS2000/SA-XD Information Source! Look at Propellerhead's two stickies on installing trigger kits. His photos are very clear, and serve as a great reference if you forget how things go back. Then look at HTown's video on the sear group. Also an excellent treatment of how to reinstall (and I think he also shows how to reinstall the grip safety, which requires you to cut a Q-Tip shaft to serve as a slave pin to hold the spring while you put it back--it's brilliant, and it works). Then, you have my own little contribution to how to replace the magazine catch, should you take it out: Help! Replacing Magazine Catch and Spring And finally, I had a thread on this about three weeks ago, which includes specific links to some of those online resources, as well as my own observations on it: First complete (nearly) disassembly--observations of a newbie (read the whole thread including the last post about the mag release). It seems harder than it is. Just take your time, make sure you know how things go back, and study the resources. And, of course, if you get stuck, as questions here. Good luck! Mongoose
