Any long term effects...?
I've left my nightstand gun (XD 9mm service) loaded and cocked for a few weeks now and just keep taking it out and leaving it next to my bed at night lately. Are there any long term effects from leaving it cocked for so long?

Clear the weapon, pull a function check every other week or so. And clear and load your mags at the same time.... there should not be a problem, this is simply preventive
Good luck PS. Get some Wolff Springs for your mags and you will NEVER have to worry.. my .02 Steve |

"clearing and loading" the mags is exactly what WILL wear out the mag spring. It's fine just like it is, you can leave it cocked and loaded for years if you like with no harm done.

There is alot of worry on spring tension for firing pins and magazine springs. From what alot of gunsmiths and other people have told me is that the metal that springs are made of now days is of a higher grade than 20-30 years ago. Mine is cocked for 2-3 months at a time in a gunvault min-safe by my bed. No problems.

I keep my cocked and ready all of the time and have never had a problem. I doubt that you will either.

I keep my XF 40 cocked and fully load all the time, so has my S&W m59 some of the the m59 mags have been kept loaded for over 20 years with no ill effects. I haven't had to replace my mag springs on any of my guns.

It's fine, it won't cause any problems.

No worries. Just keep it in Condition 1 and leave it alone. If you constantly recycle the same cartridges you can setback the bullet and cause bad things to happen like overpressurizing that cartridge which can result in a KABOOM. So don't recycle the action for no good reason and if you do, examine your rounds carefully to make sure you have no setback.
You can do so a quick eyeball check by setting them upright on a table next to several new rounds and see if the tops of the bullet are on the same plane. Or you can use a caliper for really accurate readings.

I don't clear or fire my carry XD too often and it remains cocked/loaded 24/7. You will be fine. The XDs can take much worse that sitting there being "ready".
