+1, let it be. I have left mine cocked and locked for weeks at a time with no issues.

23 months and counting. My husbands XD9SC has been cocked, loaded and carried since purchase. Every couple of months it will be fired and new SD ammo loaded.

Coming from different angle, I ride motorcycles on a race track and one of the things most people do is re-spring their bikes, and as such I've learned a bit on springs in general doing motorcycle maintenance and tuning.
Compression springs, like those in a magazine or in the gun itself, under no load or a load don't wear out in either of those states. Its the dynamic action of the spring that wears a spring out. If it's under some tension and not being unsprung and resprung it will be fine. Its the act of springing that does it. Holding a spring at its maximum can over a long time have problems and eventually wear one out but that's more related to the force of the spring, its shape, length, quality of the material (biggie) and support of the spring's container (mag walls). If the spring would 'deform' if it was compressed (bulge to the side) if it were compressed by itself then max compression will over a long time wear the spring out. If its got some side support then its got more Are most magazines shaped to roughly mimic the cross section of a magazine? If so then its got support from deforming and would last longer. As will higher quality metal of the spring. just my 2 cents..

the guy above me hit it on the head. Its the constant compress/decompress that wears out a springs tension. Keeping a mag loaded all the time is not an issue. There have been lots of old 1911 mags found that had been loaded for 60 years and they functioned fine. Its shooting a lot that wears them out.

thanks
Yeah i thought that would be the case with weakening the spring by constant loading/reloading, but i wasn't sure about just leaving it in compression for a long period of time. Thanks for the info. very helpful!
