Personally, I would go with XD-40 over the other choices. It gives you a lot of options competing in either organization. Plus .40 ammo is a bit cheaper than the other two choices you have listed so you can get more practice shots per $$.

DougXD, can they state a reason why the XD-45 is not legal for ESP? From the rulebook pertaining to ESP: Handguns permitted for use in this division must: A. Be semi-automatic - OK B. Be 9mm (9x19) or larger caliber. OK C. Have a maximum unloaded weight of 43 oz., including an empty magazine OK D. Fit in the IDPA gun test box measureing 8 3/4" x 6" x 1 5/8." with an empty magazine inserted. OK E. Be loaded to the division capacity of ten (10) rounds in the magazine plus one (1) round in the chamber. Should the division capacity not be achieveable because of lower magazine capacity, load should be to maximum mechanical capacity of magazine plus one (1) round in the chamber. Competitors must use the same capacity magazines through out the competition. OK Since the XD-45 (Service or Tactical) both meet all the above criteria, interally and externally (modifications), then Why does IDPA say the XD-45 is specifically not allowed? I'd ask them to cite me a rule, in addition of to whether the Glock 37 is legal for any IDPA competition. The only single reason they could really say it is disallowed is if the 45 GAP was illegal for IDPA across the board. The rulebook states nothing under 9x19, but gives no maximum cartridge size. DougXD, I'm not dogging you on your post, dogging IDPA for the rediculous restriction. I'm sorry if my post came across that way.

IDPA does not have an "approved gun list". The gun only has to meet the Division requirements. You can shoot your XD GAP in ESP in an IDPA match. |

Hey guys.....I agree with you all......the XD45 is in no way shape or form different than the XD9/XD40 models. They gave me no explaination as to really why it's not approved other than a hint at the notion that they apparently play with each and every gun that gets approved for use in all classifications......hands on......and they haven't yet done that with the XD45. Beyond that, no information. I guess they're too poor to buy one, or they're too scared to call SA for a demo model.......whatever.
I'm just as pissed/upset about it as the next guy. *edit* That said, my local coordinator has said that he as well as others allow it at the local levels. But if you want to shoot it at the state IDPA sanctioned events, it won't be allowed until it's officially approved for use. I have a sneaking suspicion that's it's not the gun itself but the cartridge.....the .45GAP. .45ACP is explicitly stated in the rules.......not generic .45 caliber. I bet that's why HQ is hung up on it.

Yeah, you're right........they're probably referring to the CDP where the rules say .45ACP for CDP. I guess ultimately though, just take the darn thing into the event and shoot it. If someone complains, whip out the XD9 or XD40 and keep playing Whatever. I gotta tell ya's........IDPA here in MD is nothing to brag about. I'm seriously considering just staying away for awhile. Not to go off the beaten path too far, but why is there so much in-fighting within the ranks of IDPA....or is that just in my neck of the woods?

I always "ASSUMED" that the 45 GAP was legal for ESP? As Ampleworks said it meets ALL of the criteria for ESP. Maybe HQ is holding out on a ruling, trying to decide if the GAP can play with the big boys in CDP? With Wilson being a big 1911 ACP proponent, I doubt the GAP will be allowed in CDP.

I do too figure it won't be allowed in CDP, that's fine by my standards it being in ESP.
Ask about a Glock 37, if they say it is allowed and the XD not, tell them to cite you exactly why. I've not ever been too fond of IDPA, it seems like its a Glock 'n Galco league anymore with all of the retarded restrictions.
