Home Security
I'm moving to a new house from an Apt and I was wondering if anyone has a home security system besides their XD w/Tac light or Remmy 870 with 00 buck shot

Why yes, Brink's IS better.
I might be a little biased though. Seriously though, I have had a Brink's system for the past several years and have had no problems with it. We have accidentally set it off a few times and we always get a call within 20 seconds to see if everything is OK.

I've actually had both over the years as was very pleased with each of them.

I thought I read something that Brinks doesn't make you pay for what they install, but they remove it after you end the contract or something like that?? Also, is wireless better than wired? How much more expensive would the wireless system be? Not in the house yet so can't get an estimate

Get a dog. Does not have to be a big, mean attack dog, just one that barks when someone or something comes around. If power fails or some sort of break down natural or man made, what good are the security systems. Get both dog and system. Problem solved...

Got a dog. But I want to be able to protect my dog from a potential fire while I'm not home. She is a great watch dog also! Barks at anythign that makes a noise...even catches in her mouth flies that find their way in

I have a wired ADT System in my place. The wireless system seems like a good idea if it is installed post construction. Make sure you don't have to constantly replace batteries.
What ever system you go with make sure the "brain" of the operation is on battery backup. That might be something you need to do on your own. You can probably by a UPS backup cheaper than what they would want to lease you. $30 at Radio Shack and will last 15-20 min easy with the siren going off maybe longer. Don't go for the cheap system. Get the remote video surveillance that you can access on your cell phone, and also control the lights and AC with rocket launcher. Ok- that part is silly. Just make sure it is a reliable system. I had some issues with a keypad once and ADT came out that afternoon to repair. Make sure what ever company you go with honors an Service Level Agreement (SLA) and response time.

What exactly does a "Service Level Agreement" do?

I've had Brinks before and they were great. ADT on the other hand ... I've never had them but a buddy of mine did. We had set off the alarms a few times and it took them about 15-30 minutes to call every single time ... After a few times of that he made the switch to Brinks and was impressed by their service. Personally, I've got 5 dogs and I don't think anyone wants to break in here ...
