10mm bahh!

ya i am new - but the ballistics of a 10mm is like arguing a Ford vs Chevy match to me as far as the 40 S&W. i am intriqued about the .357 SIG - but i take the 40 over it because of reloading. - straight case vs bottle necked. i bought a 40 over a 45 GAP (plus the GAP is from Europe - eww)

9mm vs 40 vs 10mm vs 45 - who here has been shot by them is my test if you want a 10mm, go buy a Block err Glock. i thought about actually but eh scarce ammo in my locale , and a LEO bud leaned my towards a 40 - plus i am sick of 9mm - had my fun and prefer some thing with a 4. i do not want to emflame a caliber competition but buy / shoot what fits you. for me, being 6'4 / 250 lbs, a 40 is no different than a 9mm in recoil - for a guy that is 5'5" / 140 might be a different story.

personally, whether a 22, 38, 9mm etc - hit me, i would fall down like a pussy and cry to mommy.

enjoy friends - shoot safe

40s&w or 357 sig please help

First off, that graph depicts a 10mm (fbi) load, or moderate loading, which is identical to the 40s&w given equal bullet weights. Those #'s don't even approach what the 10mm is capable of. As usual, the mis-informed lead the mis-guided! This type of ineptitude is exactly why the 10mm doesn't enjoy the popularity that it deserves. Doubletaps 165 gr. Gold dots deliver nearly 800 ft. lbs. of muzzle energy and expand to well over an inch, with penetration @just over 11 inches. That's just ONE example of what the ten can do. Go to glocktalks 10 ring to see all of mcnetts gelatin tests.Go look at the #'s yourself, and please stop telling me what I know. When you see these #'s, try not to get too upset, just because the XD can't be chambered for it(or the 9x25 Dillon for that matter).

You get in shot in the face by anything your going down. The .17Mach2 I have could put a human down if placed right. Jeeez, this 10mm vs 45 vs 9 vs 22 vs bb's...its all semantics when you think about it.

All of this vs that makes for great reading, if you can stay awake to read it. In real life it is all about "shot placement", a miss with a 50BMG is realy, realy loud, but ain't worth a damm as far as stopping power goes, so you have to hit your target before the witchever super bullet you buy can do it's job, so go buy the 40s&w because, it's bigger then the 9mm and costs less then the 357sig or the 45GAP, so you spend less per box of ammo, so you can buy more ammo, so you can practice more, ( Don't worry I am going somewhere with this),so that you can deliver that witchever super bullet to the proper location on your chosen target, so it can do it's job. Well that just my opinion, and we all now what they say about opinions, and mines no diffrent.
Sorry if I went to far. I think I may have had one or three to many energy drinks at work tonight.

F' 10mm. It's extremely overrated. I'm not saying it's a bad round, I'm just saying you can buy ammo cheaper and just as reliable/effective. As far as I can tell, any gun is better than no gun, but if you're looking @ 10mm, you should consider .40, .45, or other. Seriously... 10mm? Check and see what your local LE officers use. In the town I grew up in they were all issued HK USP .45s (wow.. I think a little too much tax money is going to the PD), here where I live now, (the adjunct town/city) they carry Glock XX in .40 cal. I can't recall what model, it's not 17, it's not 19. I think it could be a G22. It has the Waterloo Police Dept. stamped into the slide w/ their "phoenix" emblem, which is pretty awesome. Too bad they have to use glocks.... At least they get M16A2's too Long story short, don't get a 10mm ever.

In defense of the 10mm (yah I can't believe I'm say it either) if you get a 10mm revolver then you can shoot 40S&W in the same gun. I have been kicking around the idea of shooting revolver in USPSA and if I can find an old S&W 610 with a 6.5 inch barrel chambered in 10mm then I could shoot 40S&W in it for competition. Since I am already reloading 40S&W for my XD I would not have to reload another caliber for revolver. Also since the 40S&W dies for the Dillon SDB also work for 10mm I could load up some hot and heavy 10mm loads and use the same gun for deer season.

But more on topic I like 40S&W over the 357Sig and in general, not because it’s the best at anything but because it is a good middle of the road cartridge. Its a little more thump than the 9mm, higher capacity than a 45 in the same frame size, shoots a heavier bullet then the 357SIG. It just seems to be a well balance cartridge for self defense.

I carry a glock in 357 for duty, but if I get a chance to get a new duty weapon, Im going to an XD in 40. The 357 is a great round, but a lil on the pricey side, so it cuts down on my practice. when you say its for defense, but not carry, Im assuming, you mean for home? well the 357 round has a much better chance of penetrating walls and hitting an unintended object than the 40 would.

I think "MASTER-FROG" invented the 10mm, and can't stand to see it vanish like a f*rt-in-the-wind!

If you check the BAZOOKA Forum, he's probably spewing the same stink about the 10mm over there.

Re: .40 s&w or .357 sig? Please help!

ianjbs,

I think I have just a thing for you!

Get the .40 gun and a .357 barrel (preferably from http://www.hs2000talk.com/viewtopic.php?t=25592 ). The muzzle flip is noticeably reduced.
