My wife progressed about the same as many of yours. She went from not wanting a gun in the house, to last night she was outside in the garage with me wanting to know how my new reloading equipment worked. Quite a change in the last year or so.
What do you feel is responsible for her change in outlook here? Did she just get used to things, learn about some self-defense situation where a gun made a difference, or something else?

And there are some men here that buy shoes.

I wear a size 13 6E shoe. And I walk for a living. I burn through shoes like a summer fire in a field of dry grass. It's not uncommon for me to burn through 6 pairs of shoes a year. Once the support is gone from the shoe I toss them. Many times the support is gone before the shoe is what most people would consider "worn out". I normally rotate my shoes every day. I normally have three pair that I am currently using for work.

So when I find a comfortable shoe that fits I buy a lot of them. I just checked my closet and I have 14 pairs of shoes new in the box. However I will be tossing four pairs that I am currently wearing this weekend.

Outside of work I wear sandals nine months out of the year. I have 6 pairs of sandals still new in the box. Caught a sale on Teva sandals this spring and stocked up.

That being said I also buy guns. Average at least one gun every 1-2 months.

I made a mental list long ago that contained guns that I wanted that would fit certain roles. Long range rifle, SHTF rifle, HD shotgun, HD handgun, SHTF sidearm, etc, etc. I've had quite a few guns pass-through over the years. Either I didn't like them as much as I thought I would, or I found something better. I've actually sold off quite a few because I never shot them, but...

I've filled all the roles that I wanted to fill, and I have accumulated other guns at the same time. Some for hunting, some for plinking, some for the wife/kid to shoot and others just because. At last count I was hovering at 21 total (6 handguns, 6 rifles and 9 shotguns. I like shotguns! ). That's not a lot by some standards, but it's "enough" for me... For now.

Now I am just buying ammo for all of them like crazy, and I'm starting a suppressor collection as well.

10 weapons total and spend about 100 bucks at the range, depending on mood. I don't know what shoes have to do with the question, but one pr last me a yr. I wear boots all the time. As far having enough guns, never. I try to save a dollar a day, at the begining of the year, I start looking again!!

As my wife's cousin says:

How many guns do you need?

One more.

I feel that the change is due to several factors. She grew up with zero experience or firsthand knowledge of firearms. All she heard about guns was all of the negative stuff she heard on TV. The idea of having a gun in her home was totally foreign to her.

I calmly and rationally explained why I wanted a gun in the home, and also answered all of her questions without being aggressive or defensive. She said that she didn't really want a gun in the home, but at the same time she understood my reasons and knew that I would be responsible so she didn't have a problem with it. She didn't want to see it, and I respected that. I wouldn't get it out, or clean it in front of her. It would stay in the quick access safe and go straight to the range bag to head out the door. She eventually started asking some questions and wanted to see it. It just progressed from there. I believe the key is, I respected her wishes and didn't push anything on her. She grew comfortable when she saw how safe I was.

CCW was another issue that was foreign to her, but after talking through it with her and being patient to ask her questions she now understands that and is supportive. I can't stress it enough. Be respectful and don't push the issue. Let them have time to ask questions and be patient with them. (But at the same time, don't let their misconceptions go unchecked.) When she started paying more attention to the news, and all of the crazy things that go on these days she warmed up to the idea more and more.

That all started last September. Just last weekend was my Birthday. She wanted to go to the range with me, and she gave me $$$ for my reloading press. Quite the change. (I also went from 0 guns in the home, to now having 4 in the home.) Just last week she told me, "I am glad you love me so much, and that you want to protect me." I couldn't help but feel proud that she now "gets it".

I bought a lot of guns. Now I have a wife and 2 kids, so the purchases have slowed down considerably.

My grandfather had over 300 guns, but they were sold off to pay bills after he passed away. My goal is to have more guns in my collection than he had.
