As you can see: one gun for a purpose.

I agree. I don't see the need to own a dozen different 1911 pistols. I'd rather get a few different guns for different purposes. For me, it holds more value to be able to fulfill a number of different purposes. If you have defense well covered and still want to buy more guns, give skeet a try, or target shooting, or whatever. I enjoy small game hunting, so a nice 22 fills that purpose.

That's funny. The exact same thing happened to me.

Yeah baby steps, she first told me NO GUNS, then after slight hints here and there over a period of 4 years she finally gave the green light, uppon the green light I tried to push the envelope and mentioned future guns and she said JUST 1, after seeing that I was a little disappointed by this (in reality I was REALLY disappointed but couldn't show it because I didn't want to make her feel too bad) she said "ok you can have more guns when I start to shoot" THERE IS HOPE YET!!! So my goal has been trying to get her to the range , when I first got the gun she didn't want to see it or touch it, wouldn't let me carry it, I can now carry it and have been wherever we go (although she gets annoyed sometimes that I always have it) and the last time she hugged me she patted my gun and said "OH look I'm touching it, its a step", next step holding it (unloaded of course) next step after that... the range

Why more that one? Different purposes, different guns; long guns and handguns, sporting and self-defense, concealment or house/work guns. No one gun (or maybe even a dozen ) can do it all.

Plus there's the family, wife and kids, who carry/train/shoot regularly (or in the case of the youngest, will once he's old enough). Extended family, too, with whom we share (I have my in-laws' Winchester 30-30 on loan while they borrow my S&W .357). If folks go on vacation, we adopt their guns for a time for safe keeping, likewise when we're away. And if folks have a particular need for sport or self-defense, they know we have gear to share, just like any other tool.

Look at your cutlery; do you have just one knife? One pair of scissors? Is there one tool in the tool box that does it all?

I know people who feel guilty for their collecting. I can't for the life of me figure out why. Maybe a little is good to keep things in perspective, make sure you're not neglecting other needs by overdoing on one, but if you can afford it, why not? And there's always a use, especially when used for fun, to share, spend time with other hobbyists, and to learn about history.

My first was last may. I'm at 10 now. I got lucky and changed jobs, which got me a $7k raise, almost all of that is going towards guns. Maybe more.

Maybe 1 more then I am going to stop for a couple years... or so I keep telling myself.
The only thing I can think of at the moment that would slow down/postpone my gun buying would be to save up a bit to get lasik done. I think I'll stop after I get my new AR upper (ordering it next week) and a decent scope and put money aside to get my eyes lasered. That idea freaks me out, having someone mess with my eyes. But it's too hard to focus on the sights without contacts in.

You can never have enough guns. Good guns are a very safe investment. Even if the shtf, you will be able to get what you need to survive by trading guns in an economy that money has no known worth.

Most guns do not lose any value and most will appreciate with time. Think of them as money in the bank that you can take out and play with.

That's like asking a woman "how many pairs of SHOES to you need?"

Traditionally women buy shoes...men buy guys. Then there is that unique group of women (including some on this website) that also enjoy buying guns.

Life IS good!

I'll never have enough. I can guarantee you I've spent well over $100,000 on equipment and ammo over the years(it's probably closer to twice that though).

Ummm.. yeah, she's pretty open to buying guns.
DUDE!! Your wife rocks!! Mine tried to give me a hard time when I told her I was buying another, bringing me to a grand total of two. Money is not the issue, she just wanted to know what I needed two for. I told her, "One for CCH and one for home defense."

But there is hope... She joined the Army and enjoyed firing her M-16 at the range, so now she wants me to teach her how to fire a pistol. That means I am going to need to get AT LEAST one more, so she can have a gun of her very own.

I personally don't have the extra cash to have guns that don't have a purpose. I don't have any safe queens. I have a XD SC for CC. I have a XD Service for OC, range, games, and occasional CC. I have a customized 22/45 for cheap practice, plinking, and for the wife to shoot. Next year I will likely be getting a S&W 442 for summer carry.

My wife progressed about the same as many of yours. She went from not wanting a gun in the house, to last night she was outside in the garage with me wanting to know how my new reloading equipment worked. Quite a change in the last year or so.
