My desire to own more firearms comes in two parts. The functionality of how a certain firearm fills a "need" or role. Secondly the shear enjoyment of tinkering with a "simple machine".
Different categories of self defense firearms, hunting firearms, target and game firearms, all generally fill a need or role. There is something to be said about mechanical beauty. How well multiple components work in harmony to efficiently complete a task. (OK... the engineer side of me is coming out.) But seriously, when you cycle the action of a well made firearm and you can feel the quality, there is just something about it that is just plain nice.

I believe in having only one gun for a purpose: a full size pistol for my right hip, a sub compact in my waistband, and pocket gun strapped to my ankle. A carbine length AR in the trunk for emergencies, a shotgun nearby for close emergencies, and a "long gun" for long distance emergencies/hunting.
As you can see: one gun for a purpose. |

My issue is that I have all I need, but I am buying/building others that my children and grandchildren will fire the first rounds through. I am looking into the future and making sure my future generations have guns that might not be around to buy in their time.
My grandfather had some WW2 bring backs that he sold/got rid of before I came of age. So that is my reasoning for it. Man I wish I had that Sten that was in his safe.

Ya know... it really is nice that my wife's Dad is a FFL. Sure he can get a little bit of discount of firearms, but the nicest part of the deal is my wife grew up around a lot of guns.
The last time we were at Gander looking at 22 rifles, she picked up a Henry lever action and said, "you should get this one." While I was waiting on the sales clerk to fill out the paperwork, she picked up a 12GA slug gun and said, "you should get this one too". Ummm.. yeah, she's pretty open to buying guns.
