XD sent to Springfield for repair

I got my tricked out XD back in March of this year. I sent it to Canyon Creek to have it setup for competition. In the first month I shot about 1500 rounds with no issues, over the next 2 months I shot another 1500 through it still with no problems. Right about the 3500 round mark I started having issues with failures to eject, and failures to extract. Usually it happened on the last stage of the day. It was like it was heating up and having problems.

Since this gun is only used for USPSA matches it was really putting a strain in my scores. I was starting to loose confidence in my gun and in my shooting ability. I got tons of comments like "get a glock", or "if you had a 1911 you wouldn't be having so many issues". After several disapointing finishes I was ready to pitch my beloved XD in the river! After finishing the MN Points Series I was able to send it in to Springfield to have them figure out the problem. I was shocked when I got home for lunch to see a package waiting for me from SA. I sent the gun out on Thursday Aug 18th, and recieved it back today Aug 29th via FedEX.

I have not shot it yet so I don't know if my problem is taken care but I must say that I am very impressed with Springfield!! An 11 day door to door turnaround is fantastic. I am just praying that I won't need to do anything else to get this gun to work like it used to.

I love XDs and hope to by a XD40 soon and a Sub XD.

Here is a pic of my XD when it was brand new.

Fixed

Here is the list of what they fixed.
  • 1. Tuned the extractor
    2. Reamed the chamber
    3. Tuned the ejector
    4. Test fired

I shot it yesterday with great success. I had some magazine issues but that was my fault. I was trying to go too fast and didn't get the mags seated all the way in.

This is a good example, of why its ok to get special work and not worry about voiding warrenties. As long as the work was not the problem SA will take care of you.

During my last cleaning I noticed that a part I do not know the name of was bent upward slightly. I believe it is the part that causes the pistol to recock when the slide functons. It sort of looks like a "hook" pointing fowrard toward the muzzel. What drew my attention was that the slight bend made it difficult to put the slide back on the pistol after cleaning. This is the first problem I have ever had with any of my XD's, I have all 3 sizes of .40's, the problem is my sub-compact. I also have a 5" 45 GAP.

If anyone can give me the details on their experience getting these serviced, the name of the part I am refering to (I can take a digital pic and e-mail) etc I would appreciate it.
