Kalifornia Ammo Question
This vendor at the Berea, OH gun show this past weekend said that he was making tons of money selling reload brass casings to Kalifornia shooters becuase he said that new ammo sold there has to be individually stamped with a serial number.
Anybody know if this is true or this guy just another storyteller? My anxious shooting buddy is all a tizzy! Tom

Negative. Some lawmakers have brought up the bill to stamp each and every catridge sold with a unique number. This bill has been brought up for the past 30 years. Its been defeated each time. You'd need a high intensity laser to etch numbers onto cases and the actual bullets. To do so to each round would cause production to slow to nothing. Not to mention stores that stock ammo would have to catergorize each round.
Imagine the headache a large store like Gander or Bass Pro shops, or hell Cabelas would have. Its another stupid gun control law. |

Obviously this law is NOT meant to save lives or solve crimes!
I hope it never happens. Tom

Seems sometimes like the vendors and dealers who should really know something about these things are the most uninformed. That or they'll peddle any kind of misinformation to make a sale.

Oh the best one is the fingerprint analyzing trigger.
Scenario 1: Guy breaks in armed with a pre finger print cheapo pistol. Your dog wakes you up you listen and hear noises. So you go to your gun safe start putting in the combo. The footsteps are coming closer to the door, you hurry to put the combo in #_)%( missed a number. The guys at the door. You finally get the combo in, draw the gun, point at the door as it starts to open and you see the guy, pull trigger. Nothing happens, oh **** gotta turn on the finger print scanner. Flick it on the gun scans, but the guys already got a gun to your head. #2: Same as above but your wife is the first to the safe, she gets it open in record time. Get the gun turns on scanner, point to door, guy comes in pulls...wtf nothing. Oh **** the guns registered to my husbands print. I wish people would understand that law breaking scum are going to get thier hands on a gun weather its legal or not. Just look at how many people who illegally have guns now.... |

I hear more gun BS at shows than I care to remember.
I don't know why....because if you're going to run into gun-savvy people that can call bull**** on you, one would think it would be at a gun show, but some vendors carry on some incredible BS-ing! Vendors...stop lying at gunshows...better to be thought of as full of ****, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt....right? -Brickboy240

Vendors DO sometimes take advantage of the uniformed and the gullible, but hey, that's been going on ever since there HAS been vendors. It's up to the consumer, though, to stay informed as to what is out there, prices, and even gun control laws. That's one of the reasons I love these forums. Hell, I knew more about the XD I bought than the guy at the gun store who sold it to me. I got a great deal, though, and I knew what to look when I bought it.
It's like they say - "Buyer Beware!" I'll bet if just a couple people caught them in these lies, they would think twice before trying to pull another one over on somebody. |

All of us knowing what deformations a bullet can experience upon penetration, not to mention a 55gr 223 damn near decentigrates, I don't see how any type of laser etching could be used in court due to the benefit of a doubt whether the number was a 3 or an 8 with half of it chopped off.

I posted info about this about a month ago. One of the houses in Ca. has passed the bill, the other has to, then it has to go to the gov. Remington has already said if it passes, they will not sell ammo in Ca. I would think Winchester and some of the others would follow.
If it passes, it would go into effect in 2007. If one possess any non numered ammo, one would be guilty of a felony; no grandfathering. Of course the bad guys would just go to states like Nevada and AZ., to buy non-numbered ammo. Once again, the good guys would get screwed. The other bill was the gun manufacturers (sp) required to have a marking be placed on the case when the revolver/pistol is shot for ID purposes. Again, this has been passed in one house. Almost forgot, this would affect reloaders also as it would apply to any stored brass they might have and wouldn't be able to use. Hopefully, neither will come to bear. |
