I got hopped bore snake and it was amazing! Also I got breakfree, wiped it down and used a nylon brush on the deep parts. Wiped it again and used a bit of canned air to get the excess off. Then I added a drop of breakfree on each spring (since it won't gunk) and called it a day. Little did I no the breakfee was dripping out of the bottle more than I could see and after 30min of canned air and wiping, there is still a small amount of clp coming out of the grip safety and mag releases. Next time I'll look out for it.
I'm sure that too much clp isn't bad, especially breakfree. But how long should it take for the excess in the cravises to evaporate? Last edited by XD-9ServiceB; 08-13-2008 at 11:46 PM. |

Congrats on the xd. I recently got the 5" Tactical Black. Love it. I do all the above, and use Q-tips to get the excess BF and residue out of the slide rails. I saw it on Youtube. I did a xd search on Youtube, some interesting stuff. I do a final wipedown with an Otis Drylube cloth. Probably not needed but it don't hurt.

thanks guys, i cant wait to get back to the range. walmart had wwb 9mm rounds, 100 for $20.
redyak, yeah i used little squares of an old tshirt and canned air (works great). since breakfree wont gunk and disolves dirt and protects and lubricates all at the same time, by putting some in and either blowing or wiping off will clean the parts woth little to no scrubbing. i didnt want to risk getting cotton unraveled in any parts from q tips. if i cant wipe it i blow it, lol. plus since its so safe for any part of the gun, i dont mind that i OVER lubed or if there may be excess left over from cleaning deep in a groove some where (dirt will be disolved). maybe another cleaner/lube i would be concered, but breakfree seems to be the best. |
