Question about XD Extractors (UPDATE!!)

I have an XD9SC that I bought for my fiance. We were shooting yesterday and she kept getting spent casings down the front of her shirt. Pretty funny, but I noticed the spent casings just sort of tumbled out rather than being flung several feet from the ejection port.

I tried a few rounds and noticed it did the same thing for me. Is there a way to adjust the extractor tension? Or is there another extractor spring I can put in. Or...is this just the way XD's are?

Thanks.

Unless you're both not holding the gun incorrectly, allowing too much cycling force to be lost in a limp hold, causing the slide to move weakly, and thus the extraction.
You have an bad extractor.

Did you try different brand rounds? What brand were you using?

The casing should be flying out with some force and distance.

My XD slings the spent casings over my right shoulder and out about 6 to 7 feet away.

Not sure if your problem is the extractor, but rather the ejector. Check to make sure its not cracked or worse, missing.

Either way inspect both.

The one part of my XD that accumulates dirt out of proportion to what I'd expect is the extractor. In my case it builds up behind the hook; I can imagine a circumstance where the layer of dirt is thick enough that the ejector can't get a good lock on the cartridge, and maybe isn't bringing it back w/ enough force.

But I also agree w/ the above--make sure the ejector isn't goofed up.

I'll give the ejector a look. I haven't noticed any issues in the past but then I wasn't paying that close of attention.

Thanks for all the help.

I have the .9mm and the .40S&W, both in sub-compact, and a .9mm service and they all fling the cartridge over my right shoulder about 6 to 7 feet behind me. It's been consistent like this with both pistols since I purchased them.

Righto- Some of the newer XDs seem to use a stamped ejector not the "old" MIM part. Anyway, some members here had cracked or broken stamped parts. How does it eject when you manually rack the slide on a magazine? Obviously, exercise great care when (if) you do this.

I'm saying it's possibly her or the ejector ... Do you have problems when shooting it? If not, than it's the gun ... & I'd imagine it'd be either the ejector or the extractor.
