I've got a question about your carry laws, may be taking a trip there in a few weeks. We have reciprocity.

Conference at the CoBo center there. Is it off limits? I'm thinking it is, your law says something about entertainment place that seats 2500 or more. But a conference isn't really entertainment, it's a business event, and I don't imagine each of the rooms will have that many, 60-200 max per conference room I would imagine...

Do you guys have a state carry forum, that breaks down the laws, and discusses off-limits, or not off-limits places?

any public facility that has a occupancy capacity of 2500 or more is off limits as far as i understand. CObo is a sporting arena an dconverence center so as sporting venue's are off limits as well.. i'd say dont risk it - keep it locked and secured in your vehicle in the cobo parking structure.

there's a few metro detroiters here that i've seen (besides myself of course)

i've been doing most of my shooting (public range shooting anyway) at the new place over on 8 mile just west of beech daily - Action Impact.

They dont have a website yet, but this place is f'in SWEEEEEET.

20 yds, 2 lanes 30 cal rated, very nice HVAC so no powder even at high traffic times.

rates are $16/hr $10/half but you can share lanes w/one other person no extra charge. They're allowing carry-in ammo for now, but of course no steel core. Rumor has they'll be getting a sequential automatic reloader and if they do they're talking house ammo only - but nothing confirmed yet. I havent rented anything from them yet so i dont know what their rental prices are but they have around a dozen or more guns avail for rent.

10-8 m-sa
12-6 on sunday i think.
Last lane rental is 45 mins to closing.

I shoot at either Firing Line in Westland, or Top Gun Shooting Sports in Taylor for indoor ranges. Top Gun has two rifle lanes, you need to purchase their rifle own (all handgun ammo is good, again, nothing steel). Public I either go to the DNR ranges at Island Lake (Brighton) or Sharonville (I think Jackson).

There is also some state land "dedicated" to shooting up in Lapeer, called "the pit". Basically an area that while no officals have dedicated it as a range, it is used as such. It's an "anything goes" type of place, no RO's to watch over you. Just make sure the morons aren't there at the same time, I've heard plenty of stories.

I'd certainly be down for a "detroit gun club" if it meant a decent rifle/handgun range close to Detroit (such as Dearborn/downriver area). There are quite a few clubs in Oakland, Washtenaw and Livingston county...and I imagine Macomb has a good portion as well.


As for carry laws...the law states seating capactiy no larger then 2500. Does that mean if you don't actually go into the arena area, that you're good? Maybe...use your license for what it's for and keep it hidden. I'm not saying you should carry it, or that it's legal to do so, but...I think you get the idea.

I'm with Joey on the Detroit club and by the way Joe both AK mags functioned perfectly in my guns Thanks again. I am gonna have to try out that new range on 8 mile and Beech I've been waiting for them to open.

Haven't been to the new range yet...I have family near there so I'll have to check it out when I'm in the area.
