Got an approximate location?

Not sure as I havne't been there...in fact I hardly go North of I96.

I know both MI Gun Owners and AR15.com have directions. I think arfcom even has a hadn drawn map, look in the hometown section.

I have not been there either, however, here are some photos and links to directions:

"Lapeer Pit" Lapeer, MI 2008

If that is not enough detail, a google of: lapeer the pit shooting range
gives lot of results and other maps.

if it what i think it is... its right on Roods Lake Rd, just north of King road. (approx 2 miles from the lapeer airport) Its very common to find folks with full auto's shooting here. Thats probably 'those people' refered to above. I have a friend who lives close to there where i shoot on private property, and we can hear the full auto folks going to town on any given day around there.

PS - this place is a MESS. i've driven past a few times and there's crap littered ALLL over when i've seen it. Definatly not someplace i would take the family.

Just my $0.02 usd

I agree. I'm kind of looking for a place to shoot without range fees and restrictions on rapid fire.

Yeah, its on Roods Lake road. Basically go up 24, right on Daley, left on roods lake, go past the dragstrip on the left, when you cross vernor rd. its ahead on the right.

Its a state gun range, but is unmanned. They do have hours its open, so if you don't follow them I assume a county officer might stop by. "the pit" is a good description. Junk/targets everywhere. And lots of full auto guys. Last time I was there, there were about 30 people shooting, AK/AR, even a glock 18.

It may not be as nice as going to Double action or someplace with a nicer range, but its free, there's really no restrictions on shooting, and you just have to pay attention if there are responsible folks there. Even the full auto guys who were there were observing safety rules and we didn't have any issues.

I also shoot at Double Action in Madison Heights, or Bass Pro shops, although they have been filled up last few times I called. Target Sports in Royal Oak has a nice range too, just a bit overprotective if I recall.

I have friends who are members at Oakland county Sportsmans Club, they have a nice indoor range, and outdoor. Visitors pay $5 for open shooting.

It would be nice to have a range in the tri-county metro area that would allow more realistic practical shooting. 3 second rules, and not drawing from a holster seems to be a pretty worthless expensive hobby rather than a chance to improve your confidence and skill.

Do you guys have a state carry forum, that breaks down the laws, and discusses off-limits, or not off-limits places?
Try http://mcrgo.org/

Michigan gun Owners (migunowners.com) is an actual forum. MCRGO isn't bad for looking up some info, but MGO has a lot of members who are actually involved in the community, and even has a few lawyers to help decipher some of the more...questionably worded laws.

Wal Mart. I doubt you'll find it cheaper anywhere, internet included.
