Will the compacts or subcompacts be offered with a thumb safety?

I thought I saw that some Service models were being introduced where there was an option of a thumb safety. My girlfriend thinks she might want to have a thumb safety on hers when she buys it, but the Service would have too large a grip for her to conceal comfortably.

I think that after training and pistol safety courses she'll be fine with the grip safety and the trigger setup though. But nonetheless, does anyone have word of any of those?

Also, what about compact XDM models? Are there any in the making?

addition of thumb safety was mainly for the XD to be considered for LEO and military contracts, as the thumb safety is a prerequisite feature. I doubt military or LEO would want to use compacts and subcompacts, so I dont see thumb safety being made for them

Good luck in your quest for this information. SA is being pretty tight lipped about all future XD releases right now.

there's really no need for a thumb safety on a gun that already has two external safeties and is meant for concealed carry. The addition of a thumb safety in an already ultra safe system is redundant, and constitutes something else one would have to fumble with in a life/death situation.

Besides, I don't think HS or Springfield are planning on putting thumb safeties on them, because, as stated above, the only reason they put it on the service models is to appease LEO and Military requirements.

Safeties.

I don't mean to hijack but with respect to the thumb safety. I hear people saying all the time when you holster the gun keep your palm off of the grip safety so that way IF something is in the trigger guard it will not go BOOM! BUT what about when you UNHOLSTER it ....something is in the trigger caught up...now when you unholster if ( engaging the grip safety) the GUN will go BOOM...since the trigger safety is engaged.

I am interested in everyones take on this. Thumb safety would prevent this.

If something snagged on the way out of the holster, I would think it would pull in the opposite direction of the trigger pull just based on physics. Frankly--it doesn't concern me. If I'm pulling it to take it off, I'm careful. If I'm pulling it because I need it, it's not really a concern to me.

I have the XD45C and have never felt a moment's regret from not having a thumb safety. It's just one more thing to do before the gun is ready to go.
