The red is cheap and the green is nice (but not cheap).

If you have a holster already the mount laser will not fit it.

Yes, it's a physical characteristic of the human eye.
Visible laser light & eye color sensitivity

However, I tend to agree with Terry. One can become dependant on the use of a laser for target acquisition. Better in a defensive situation to be able to point and shoot without a crutch.

FWIW, I've got a red laser i use for trigger work and hold, but it's never mounted when I shoot.

I can see such a feature for LE/Security purposes, I don't see a personal need for a laser on a defensive weapon.

That's a good point AZXD. I have heard that from more than one person. It makes sense. That would point to a red laser that slips on the rail for trigger work and slips right off. Perfect. I will do that.

This question still circulates around a good bit even though laser sights are not the gimmick they were once viewed as. Let me make one point, if you don't have a laser sight that can be carried with gun at all times or needs to be removed because it does not fit a holster on the planet, then you have a toy, this includes all the green lasers out there right now.

So after this qualification of must be able to be on the gun for carry or holster work this leave Crimson Trace and Lasermax. I prefer CTC for the instant activation and leaving the internals alone, also I like the grip change it offers on the XD, it makes it more comfortable for me but your milage my vary.

Crimson Trace grips on XD9 SC

I got the Crimson Trace grips for my XD9 SC.
paid under $300 for them and mainly wanted the laser for home defense at night.
Being over 50 with my eyesight not as good as it used to be, the laser combined with my handheld light make me a little more confident that I can hit what I am aiming at in the middle of the night.
I liked the Crimson Trace grips over the other lasers due to the fact that my gun still fits all of my holsters and I don't have to remove the laser.
Over all I am quite pleased with the laser and it does seem to help me with my dry fire exercises.

I just bought it yesterday for my .45 service. So far...I'm not so pleased.

It makes the gun "feel" different in my hands. I spent last weekend taking a defensive handguns class at FAS (Firearms academy of Seattle) and was doing well. Point shooting up to 10 yrds was all in the A zone of offical IPSC targets. I was also shooting A zone shots at 7 yds with taped up sites. Went to the range today and I was all over the place. I noticed that I was trying to focus more on the laser then I was lining up the sites.(very possible that it was user error)

I spent a good 90 rounds trying to zero in this laser and I'm still not sure its where I want it to be. (It is VERY hard to see during the day, in the sun).

Overall I feel that I need to spend several more trips to the range and put at least 200-500 rounds through it to see if I can get use to the added bulkyness. I personally feel it adds more to the already big .45 frame then my previous houge sleeve. So right now, I'm not so happy with my purchase, but I will give it some time. Hopefully, I can relearn my gun and have the laser as an added bonus.
