Care and Maintenance XD40SC

What is the recommended course of action to clean and properly maintain my 40SC? I went to walmart, but none of their cleaning kits have any oil or solvent in them, does anyone recommend a specific brand or kit to clean the pistol and a .22lr Marlin 60?Thanx in advance

as far as im concerned you cant beat hoppes #9 for actual cleaning. and for oil just make sure it is a very light decent quality gun oil and you should be fine. i have some synthetic stuff that is pretty cool, but you have to make sure all the other oil is gone or it gets kind of gummy.

I have found that irrespective of the TYPE of solvent used, it is more important to LEAVE the solvent on the parts you want to clean (such as the barrel, etc), than it is to aggressively scrub/scrape the parts. Once you apply the solvent, LEAVE IT ON while you clean the other, less dirty parts of the gun. Return to the dirty part (e.g., barrel), apply some more solvent with the bore brush, and WAIT. Finally clean up the gunk taken off by the solvent.

Hoppes #9, CLP, Gun Scrubber, all will work. Also, don't need to over-oil the gun. Ask a local gunsmith the 6 or 7 spots on your semi-auto where you need to apply ONE drop of oil.

I always use hoppes#p powder solvent and oil to clean my guns. Cant go wrong. You can buy everything you need seperate, or find somewhere that sells a kit for your caliber.
