Yes, the roll pin will eventually break. Buy new ones...$3-4 for three from pistol gear.

I have dry fired my XD over 15,000 times now. That is not counting the over 10,000 round this gun has had through it.

I think it would probably take a long time before it caused any problems. Most people dry fire their XD all the time. You have to dry fire it to field strip it. I wouldnt worry about it.

You don't have to dry fire the XDM-40 to take it apart!
I couldn't help polking you in the eye just a little. You know what they say. "The biggest zelot is a convert". I converted to the XDM about 30 minutes after the gun was delivered by UPS to my local gun store. Bought it in the spot. Oh, I have dry fired my XD and XDm thousands of times with no problems at all. Now letting the slide release slam forward is a different story with these polymer chassis. |

I have broken one at 4500 rounds(not counting dry fire). I have changed them out before every major match(3) and/or every 4000 rounds live ammo.
5 total. Only one broke from fatigue and I have changed the rest from preventative maintenance.

I haven't had a problem with my XD-9 and dry firing. I've heard of the pin needing to be fixed, but it is cheap and not a huge issue.

They do it because it's not their guns, so they don't care too much about it.
