my carry around pistol is currently a sig p232 in .380 cal. This sucker is small, and super slim but ONLY carries 7+1
I'm thinking about getting an XDsc but can't decide------what things should i take into consideration between a 9mm and a .40? The 9 has more rounds which appeals to me, but does it really have that LESS of a stopping power than a .40? Also i'm talking about personal defense, in close distance situations. |

If the only thing your thinking about is personal defense then I would go with the .40. Slightly more stopping power. Nothing against the 9mm, it will still get the job done and would still be a good choice. The 9 does hold more rounds, slightly less recoil and cheaper ammo though. Either way, I dont think you can go wrong.

I would go with the 9mm. You trust yourself to the .380, why wouldn't you trust a 9mm? I am not bashing the .40, but that round in gun with a smaller grip can really cause some "snap" that people don't like.

I carry the XD-40SC and with some thought it can be well concealed unless it's summertime and you're wearing T-shirts. I do not find the recoil harsh at all from the 40SC but if you are used to practicing with just 380 or are very recoil sensitive I guess it will require a bit of practice. Most good 380's have one plus and that is they usually hit the target and return quickly. The 40SC is impressivley accurate for it's barrell length and 10 or 13 rounds (both mags included) does not have you ill prepared. The 9mm might be a slightly easier transition from the 380 but for me the increased power in the same package was the right choice. 9mm is my personal minimum requirement for carry and that is reserved for summertime pocket carry. my ramblings on the subject.

Xd9 Sc
IMO the XD9SC fits all of your requirements. I'm slightly biased however.

I don't like the 40 cal round as a whole. I don't care for it's snappy recoil. I like my XD9sc. It is my usual daily carry except in the summer. ![]() With the modern SD loads available I don't the the 40 has that much of advantage. Anyone shot with a 9mm will be just as bad off as if you shot them with a 40. I'm not bashing the 40 either. 9mm is cheaper to shoot. Cheaper ammo = more range time. The 9mm or 40cal is going to be cheaper than the 380 you are buying now. I'm thinking about selling my 45ACP to buy another 9mm....... I carry the XD40sc. Sure it's a bit snappier than my gf's XD9sc but it's not like it will fly out of your hands and hit you in the face. Practice shooting it with the proper grip and it's just as controllable as any pistol. Besides, the lethality of the 9mm is always being debated. Is it or is it not good enough for personal defense? What if in the heat of the moment you only get one hit on the bad guy?

i went with the 40, and i load it with HST, nearly 3/4" when expanded + had 100% weight. i just like the round though, i dont mind the snap, and with a pearce mag expansion, its wonderful.

I didn't enjoy shooting my 40SC, and eventually got rid of all of my 40s. I'm not so sure that my 9SC isn't more accurate than my XD9, and it's a blast to shoot. I don't think a 9mm Gold dot is going to bounce off anyone.
