stiff slide release

I just got my new XD9 SC today! Finally!

I can't wait to shoot now!

I have a little issue though. Is it normal on a new XD to have an incredibly stiff slide release lever.? I'm guessing it needs to get "broken in," but will oiling it to improve the stiffness. Right now I almost have to use two hands to release it!

I appreciate any input.

I just looked at a new XD45 and it took me two fingers to release the slide as well, It will get easier over time. Both my XD's are used so i never went through having to break them in and everything.

Mine was stiff at first too (I bought my XD Service 9mm in early May) but it's smoothed out.

my new 45c seemed really difficult too. it gets easier though when you put some rounds through the pipe.

since day 1, the slide release is much easier when the mag is loaded with ammo. dont know how or why...but it is

I just got one myself and it to is stiff. I think it is a little better with bullets in the mag. If you are trying it empty you should try loading it. Good luck

edit : I just saw ryaans post so I guess it"s not just me.

If you are trying to use the slide release, with an empty magazine in place, remember the empty mag's follower is engaging the slide release and you are fighting the mag spring as well.

Loaded mag or no mag will release much easier, as there is no pressure on the release from the magazine follower and spring. If it's still hard, look for burrs on the engagement surfaces of the release, frame and slide.

There is always going to be some resistance, since the recoil spring is pushing the slide forward against the release, when engaged. But it should be relatively easy to release.

One more thing, the release lever's thumb piece being vertical makes it harder to disengage, than say, a 1911.

Like said before an empty mag will make it harder to use the slide release. I try to use the slide release as little as possible though since its better to "slingshot" the slide by pulling it to the rear and release although I use the slide release once in awhile for one hand manipulation practice.

I bought my XD-9 about 3 weeks ago and at first mine was pretty stiff but I've oiled it with Tri Flow many times (after cleaning it) and its already comfortable. I'll shove the clip in and drop the slide easily using only my thumb now (not my two fingers with force of an ox, like I had to at first). Give it time. It'll get comfortable fast

P.S. when i was looking at it before i bought it at Turners Outdoorsman, the salesman even told me that the XD's are all pretty stiff at first. so no worries

I was really concerned about this issue at first, but after a couple hundred rounds through my XD-45 service, it's gotten better.
