I too recommend using the "slingshot" method. It is a slide lock, and not a slide release, use it accordingly.

I have the same issue with my XD9SC - the slide release can be stiff / hard to use at times. I also prefer the slingshot method - it's quick and easy - don't be afraid to use it!

I just got my XD9SC on Friday and I concur it is quite stiff. I am hoping the spring will loosen up a little. I have been playing with it while watching tv trying to loosen it up and it already seems to be doing just that. It just needs to be broken in. I haven't shot it yet (which is pissing me off) but I hope to run it though a couple hundred rounds this week.

+1 After 600 rounds through my .45 Compact I don't really even notice it anymore. It was a serious concern for my wife though, so we did two things. One, put as much ammo through it as we could (550 at this point), and Two, added the new slide stop from XD Guys, which is bigger. It made it much easier for her to lock the slide. Now she can lock it with ease.

will break right in
I thought the same thing since I had to use both thumbs. As soon as I loaded the full mag into the gun it was much easier. I've only shot a few hundred rounds through it and don't have any trouble. The sweetest gun I've ever shot!
