Please don't ridicule me...
XD .45 ACP 4" Duo Tone Service I was in my living room, carpeted, and my dining room is very hard tile. I was practicing withdrawling from concealed carry, yes - empty/clear. the 2nd attempt (not the 2nd attempt ever, just during practice), I pulled, and lost my grip, and dropped it to the floor - it was half on the carpet, half on the tile, but definitely hit the tile. (owner since april this year, and have used since November 07) The slightest smudge is on the slide, just to the left side of the front sight, and the tile has a 3 inch crack - mostly, a split. I test fired, while empty, about 10 times, and broke it down a few times - all seemed fine. I never wanted to drop this fine piece of machinery...and now I did - I'm not sure that it won't work, but want to be positive that it will. Anybody ever do the same as me? You'd have to do a lot more than drop that thing on tile to break it. One of the guys on the forum had his fly off the roof of his car at 50+ miles an hour and get run over by an SUV. All it had was a couple light scuffs and it worked fine.

I'd worry about my tile more than my XD.

wow.
Alright - I'm going to have to test it asap - the reason I bought this one was, well, because of a lot of reasons, and, because of how tough it is. Just hope nothing went wrong - I'm more dissappointed in myself than anything... |

You didnt break an XD by dropping it. These things are made like rocks. Which is why your tile broke.

Dont worry. Its all part of breaking it in.
You just added some character to your XD. It will be fine.

Guns in general are some of the most reliable man made machines ever created, and the XD is no exception. I kick mine down the stairs every morning before breakfast just for good measure...j/k, but you get my point. Test it out but I'm sure its all good.

I'd put money on your XD being just fine.
My reloading mentor used to hit the back of the slide against the bench or use a hammer to get his XD40 into battery until he figured out how to load LSWC rounds for the XD (it was always pointed down range). The chambers on the XD40's are match .400 but lead bullets are usually .401. After his first batch he learned to set his dies to trim just a bit off and now they work just fine.

SPRINGFIELD ARMORY One other element of the XD that makes it a great piece--the striker block/drop safety. It prevents the gun from going off if it's dropped while loaded. I can't imagine that you did anything to it that would cause you trouble. Frankly, in the battle between the tile and the gun, the gun gave a lot better than it received.

It can be depressing when this happens but the XD will be fine. Kind of like that first door ding in a new car. Now you can use it.
