I've heard chlorinated brake cleaner is bad for most guns.

+1 on the chlorinated brake cleaner.

I wouldn't use WD40 although it won't damage anything unless you try to use it as a slide lube on a regular basis.

Militec-1 is said by some not to provide good corrosion protection. The manufacturer makes enough voodoo science claims based on anecdotal evidence to at least raise the eyebrow of a skeptical person. I have some and it seem to work fine as a lube but I don't use it regularly.

I use non-chlorinated brake cleaner with no problems.

I've used Militec-1, souly, for a long time, on all my firearms, and I've yet to have a single issue. Most people don't follow the directions.

I've used chlorinated brake cleaner ($1.99 @ Walmart) on my XD and P-22 w/o problems. I don't soak the polymer parts in it or anything but spraying it on and wiping it off has not had an adverse effect for me. On my revlovers I take off the CT Lasergrips before I clean the guns; ditto for my long guns with wood stocks.

I test any cleaning compound on the magazine floor plate. I suppose I should check with SA to make sure the magazine floor plate is the same polymer as the grip.

Yeah that chlorinated brake cleaner(red label) melts the plastic or polymer grips on the XD's.... Use the non-chlorinated (green label) brake free.
