Do They Make? Also Im new to xD/Forum
Hey guys, glad I found this site, although joining it has been a bit of a pain due to the robot checker thing refusing anything i say regardless of what I put in but no biggie!
Ok so I have been searching for a pistol that I can carry more times than not (but not all the time), Plink With, But also have it be decently accurate at longer ranges (for pistols anyway), O and it has to be reasonable price because While I take care of things, Its going to get used a lot! So I turned to polymer pistols. Than after shooting several calibers its come down to the .40 For its stopping power, *IM NOT A FAN OF THE 9, no offense to those who are* decent prices relatively, and not to much recoil for quick firing. So it narrowed me down to Glocks and the xd. Now glocks are proven to be everything they are meant to be and than some, I dunno im just not drawn to them. I was in my local gunshop when they showed me an xD and I was hooked! Than after more research about it I knew it was the right choice. I like the grip safety, that was big for me and the glock doesn thave them. *Which is originally why i was lookin at 1911's but they are too much money for the beating i plan and know im going to do* So i know I want a 4" barrel 40 caliber. And preferably an xD. So here after all this is ranting is my question. I noticed the .40 comes in the tactical (service model?) with the 4" barrel. The SC is just to small for me, since i want a happy medium of size and what not, even if they are just the same accuracy wise, id still rather have the 4" barrel. BUT the grip is so big! Thats when I noticed the xd Compact, 4" barrel with a shortened grip, but on the xD site it shows its only available in .45. So.. can I get the xd compact in the .40? Man that would be the perfect gun! If not glock makes a 40 4" barrel with compact grip, but plz i would rather not have a glock! IF they do make what im lookin for in xd, where can i get it or how do i order it. |

FYI Glocks seem to have a slight problems with the .40's...they do not use a completely supported chamber, which can cause failures. They are pretty rare, but it happens enough that you hear about it. You shouldn't have anything to worry about, though...Just don't go saying all this over at Glock Talk
While Springfield does not make a compact .40, you can do the grip chop, as stated above. If you do, it's the same thing as a compact, it will look and feel the same as if SA did make it that way (when done properly, of course).

But if you check again quickly, roughly what does that entail? |

Grip chop; a how to...
Found that. Ok i think i read somewhere that the 45 and 40 are built on a different frame. Would that stop anyone from buying a 45 underside and putting it together with a 40 top end. This way chopping wouldnt be neccessary? I think i would be a little nervous to start chopping grips, because with my luck i need warranties. Maybe ill just be stuck with the 45? There's 3 .40s (4 if you count the new M).
Tactical: 5" bbl & normal grip Service: 4" bbl & normal grip SubCompact: 3" bbl & chopped grip It sounds like you're looking for the Service but I'm confused. The only Glock with a 4" bbl is the same size as a Service. Their subcompacts (the 27) have a 3.4" bbl (or something like that) with a smaller grip. Basically, the "compact" XD is the same size as the "compact" Glocks. |

ya i want the 4" bbl and chopped grip like they have on the .45 compact.
the .40 4" service is 5.5" top to bottom and 45 compact is 5" according the xd site. Now the glock 23 with a 4" barrel has a 5" top to bottom, according to there site. GLOCK "Safe Action Pistols" is putting a compact grip frame on a .40 top end be possible? Last edited by Baron7700 : 06-26-2008 at 09:11 AM. |

Can you put a 40 4" top on a 3" SC frame? Might be a stupid question but don't have the pistol on me right now to look. Oops, I just sinned - surfing the internet while un-armed!

No the SubCompact frame is not interchangeable. The length of the frame to the barrel lug is too short.
