Polish slide? How?

On another forum I saw where some people took a matte stainless slide and finished it themselves in a high gloss, mirror-like finish. Does anyone know how I can do that myself to a few of my non-carry guns?

I would appreciate any advice. I would really like to do it myself rather than send it out.

Thanks.

A dremel with a polish compound and a buffing wheel....and lots of time. Or you could use a bench grinder with a buffing pad and some compound.

Either way you slice it you need lots of time

Do a search on "polish" here, there are several really informative threads recently. There is one fellow posting who has done parts for people that look great, and he's posted a polished Glock slide but not an XD. Maybe your's will be #1?

He uses a lot of techniques and experience beyond a dremel and compound to get to a mirror finish.

Some words of wisdom. If you use power tools, be very careful not to round the corners. It really looks like sh#t if you get carried away. This is speaking from personal experience. Take your time and good luck.

I'm sure it will look fine, post some pics when you are done, I just did my slide with sandpaper and wet sanding. It looks pretty good but not chrome as others do, pretty sure they are using polishing compounds and high speed wheels.
