I am happy to just shoot a single box of 50 through my XD. But then again, I've been shooting since 1976 (plinking) and shooting 9mm since 1982. I'm no professional marksman, but I do OK

Rifles are my main interest. Pistols second and rarely do I shoot a shotgun and if I do its just to throw a few clays with a plastic hand thrower. Ha ha

I try to shoot until just before I become fatigued. That is almost allways 200 rounds and usually less than 300. Practicing after that point is counterproductive for me because all I do is tend to ingrain bad habits.

The weather at the outdoor range is also a significant influence. When the temperature and humidity are both 95 I tend to shoot less and sweat a lot more.

+1, you'll find after shooting you have a limit at the range when the concentration seems to fade and then you are pissing away bullets. Some have a high limit some have a low, find the medium..you'll be happier

To each his own, of course.

I don't shoot more than 150 rounds in a given range session. Most of the time I only shoot 50-100 rounds. Any more than 150 rounds and my concentration and accuracy drops off - I'm just emptying magazines and cylinders.

And I reload!

The day that I shot 500+ rounds with my .45, my gun melted my Kydex holster.
