XD-M factory mags mag release hard to operate?
Hi everyone,
Naturally new to the forum, so hello I picked up a two tone XD-M last week. It kinda jumped into my hand and refused to leave so I had to take her home The magazine release was very stiff, but never owning an XD before I wasn't sure if it was normal or not. I was hoping that it would loosen up. I have been using the two factory mags that came with the gun. When I cleaned the gun Sunday, I made sure to lubricate the mag release. Without a mag in it, it operates smoothly and easily. Once I put a loaded magazine in it I can barely operate the release. Is this normal with XD's? Do I simply need to put the mag in and release it a couple hundred times to work to loosen it up? Has anyone else had something similar and found a good way to fix it? Has anyone found a good set of night/low light sights for the XD-M yet. its one thing I do feel I need to put on, as I saw a tremendous difference once I installed them on my other pistols. Other than that I love the gun. It makes me shoot better than I normally do. Its become my primary carry gun, much to the chagrin of my two HK's, which I love. Thanks for the help. S.M. Standard XD sights fit.
I didn't have any problem dropping empty magazines on mine. I never dropped any full ones. |

So far no problems with either the slide release or the mag release on my XDM (did you type "slide release" accidentally?) with about 500 rounds through it. Mags drop whether loaded or empty. I am still deciding on night sights and am leaning heavily toward Truglo TFOs. I've been assured by multiple parties that standard XD sights fit the XDM as CommieHunter replied above.

Maybe I misread and he did mean slide release and I just saw mag release.

Magazines are held in place by a small catch, when there is no rounds in the magazine there is very little pressure on the catch. When the magazine is full there is pressure against the catch making it more difficult to release. With use you will reduce some of the spring pressure and wear the catch and magazine so there is smoother travel. So yes with use it will become easier but it will be more like about 500 - 1000 rounds through the gun. I always get a kick out of this compaint because under normal operation you will never drop a full magazine unless you want to lose the fight. Competition shooters know how important it is to have magazine springs that provide consistant pressure for proper loading and yet have magazines that drop free when empty. Just be patient grasshopper

Don't worry Shadow....I had the same problem and I was actually wondering the same thing. Just wanted to make sure that others were having the same problem. None of my other guns have been this hard to push up the mag or release it.

Sorry none of my other pistols have ever had a problem like this. I know my HK's don't have this. I can eject a fully loaded mag out of any of them with just a normal easy push of the release. And sorry but I have found many situations where its normal to eject a full magazine, IE a carry gun and clearing it. Of course you aren't going to eject a full magazine in a fight. Only an idiot would think or insinuate so. I was just concerned with the force required, which caused me to have to turn the gun sideways to get a better angle to operate the release. Interesting tone from some guys here so far Blown964 glad to hear others had similair problems and that my question was able to help someone. S.M.

I think that there was another post on this topic today. Might want to check the most recent posts. I replied to that one as well. This guy said that he is going to call SA. I told him to PM me when he does and to let me know what they say. You might want to ask to join the list!!! If you get any info, please pass it along to me. Thanks
