Does it hurt it or not?

I bought an extra mag specifically loaded with hollow points and keep next to my dresser just in case SHTF. Is it ok for the magazine spring to be compressed like that for long periods of time? Dont wanna put too much stress on the spring but then again I want a mag ready just in case Whats your opinions?

Nope, doesn't hurt it. People have had mags loaded for YEARS with no ill effects.

The only thing that wears down springs is constant compression and releasing of the spring.

As long as it is properly designed, and not abused ... As in trying to force an extra round where it should not be ... A compressed spring does not care ... Think of a car that sits for many years ... The springs do not wear out by just sitting around with weight on them.

Load it and leave it.
No problem.
As others have said it is the cycling of loading and unloading a magazine that causes spring fatigue (wear).

I leave my gun loaded with hollow points at night not just a seperately stored clip, but ive noticed that (especially with a FULL clip) there is a lot of resistance against my mag release so it feels like the clip is almost being jammed into the gun (even tho there's a standard 10 rounds in it). Is this bad for the gun at all??

Springs that are properly designed for their task at hand will not wear out from long periods of being compressed or uncompressed. (Granted, this assumes we trust the engineers at any gun company or gun accessories company to put the "right" spring in a given magazine, but thats besides the point) The only way for a spring to weaken is through the repeated release of stored potential energy or plastic deformation.

In short, storing a loaded magazine for long periods of time is fine as long as you are using a quality magazine.

Since I have seen so many posts on this subject, just think of a slinky lol. A slinky will work forever as long as you don't stretch it out and cause it to lose its shape and inherent properties. As long as you dont overload it, in this case, by overstretching, it lasts forever. This post has become entirely too long....
