P*ssed
So I finally read the marksmanship thread we have on here and it's helped a ton. I went to the range yesterday for some relaxation. Anyway, I progressively got worse through the entire stay. After 200 rounds I field stripped my XD at the range. Grabbing the slide my front sight, truglo tritium, slid down. Tipping the slide back and forth the front sight slid also.
So now what? I just got the damn things put on only a month ago. Anyone have some advice? Can a gunsmith fix that? And should I just take it back to the smith that put it on? I've put 400 rounds through the pistol since I got the sights and yesterday was the first time it came loose.

Sorry....can't quite determine the exact problem from your description.
Am I correct in understanding that the fiber optic piece is sliding back and forth or the front sight itself moves left and right. More clarity please?

That seems to be a downside with the XD, if you don't find a gunsmith who has worked with and knows the XD, they could "mess things up," particularly with sights. I'm not sure if this is the case or not, but just an observation. But as arizona posted, hard to tell if it's a sight issue or installation issue.

The entire front sight slides back and forth in the front groove.

Could be an install problem or it is possible the sights you got were not made for the XD and could have been packaged in the XD package. I have had zero problems with my TFOs. Before you take it back to the person who installed the sights you may want to take it to another gunsmith who is more familiar with the XD platform and maybe he could pin-point the reason for the problem. To me it seems the guy who installed the sight may have done some unecessary filing or they were the wrong sights for the XD and to small for the front sight groove on the slide.

+1 for taking it back to the gun smith. I know that XD sights are a beast to put it, and it's likely it took some filing to get done. Probably did too much, then used a cement or something that maybe broke down and stopped working.
Take it back....and have him put Trijicons on it instead.

If they were installed correctly they are extremely snug in there, sounds like whoever installed them modified them to go on easier. The sights on the XD are a bee-otch to replace but they go back on fairly easy. Definitely take it back to the smith that worked on it and see if he'll make it right.

TFO sights installed properly will not move in any direction, they require a hammer and punch to move them. It sounds like they are too narrow for the dovetail. Did you buy the sights from the gunsmith? It sound like they are the wrong sights if they move forward and back. Even if he filed them down they would fall out of the dovetail before they would move in the direction you discribed. Unfortunately there is no model number visible on the front sight.
