I know some of the negatives to ported barrels has to do with gases and debris flying out of the ports and potentially hitting you in the face or wherever but is there anything beyond that? Does it lower velocity? I found a good deal on a used V10 9mm and I am seriously thinking about buying it. But on the other hand the recoil with 9mm is so light that a ported barrel might not make a big difference. I dunno. What say you guys?

I had one, and sold it.
No reason really, just like the XD9 Tactical a little better. I never felt any debris coming back at me although there are times when you felt a bit of a "shockwave" from the muzzle. Also never did test out the theory that you will lose your night vision if shooting in darkness The pistol does get dirty after a good extended shooting session, but just go home and clean it. Recoil is reduced to just about nothing, infact the pistol almost pushes your hand below the line of sight. I would get it for speed shooting or competition if a ported pistol is allowed. It was a good pistol and if it's a good price, grab it!

Uhhh, I think you meant muzzle flip is reduced. Recoil will remain the same ... It's a law of physics!

It won't make a big difference in 9mm, but it does in 40 cal for sure.
I love my V10, but I bought it for a range toy, not for carry. I do not ever carry ported guns. Reasons are too numerous, but it's not the most ideal thing to use in all situations. But, like i said I love mine and have been enjoying the hell out of it. I would still recommend going for the 40 over the 9 honestly.
