XD9sc or .40

I have two XD pistols. A four inch service model and a sub-compact both in 9-mm. I have shot .40 caliber pistols. Not very many rounds. I don't like the recoil of a .40 caliber pistol. I have thousands of 9-mm rounds through both XDs. I was amazed that the XD9sc was as accurate as the the four inch barrel service model. I use Pierce extensions on the ten round magazines, it is necessary for me to control the pistol. My grip is not strong enough with my little finger under the magazine to recover for fast second shots. It is a wonderful pistol. I carry mine in a Comp-Tac CTAC holster.

Shoot safe,

-- Richard

I had the .40 in a sc, and I sold it. I really want a 9mm sc now. It has so many advantages, mag capacity, less recoil, and most of all (for me anyway) cheaper ammo.

I shot both before choosing one. I preferred the XD 9 SC recoil and speed to follow up shot, so that's the one I purchased.

I shot both, and loved both.

Since I already had a .40 I went with the .40 SC. I shoot it extremely well and I love the gun.

Next week I'm going back and get the 9sc for my son who is just starting to shoot pistols. I did let him shoot my .40 a few times last weekend but it was a bit too much for him.

Yes, ammo is more expensive for the .40 but it's my personal choice, and I prefer a .40 over a 9mm any day of the week. Just my opinion...

I'm going to the range this weekend, haven't tested it yet. Not sure I'd carry it for SD without a lot of testing.

But that is an option to consider.
My 9mm barrel from Bar-sto is in Fed Ex hands and I should be getting it early next week. I will let you know how it works (in my .40 Service). I got it for the cheaper ammo and hopefully get my wife to shoot a bit.

As far as 40 vs 9 in sc see my thread where several chimed in with thoughts on the issue.

What to buy in .40 carry.

BTW, tjg4, great username.

Thanks you too.....only difference is I always add a 4 somewhere in usernames since it was always my sports jersey number and lucky number.

I just took mine to the range, be warned, your spring is (probably) too stiff to eject the 9mm. I had a lot of FTE with both factory spring and a 22# DGR spring.

The SC is rated +P. +P+ is not an official SAAMI designation, so you wont find any guns rated for +P+.

Either will do the job admirably.. I suggest you go with what you shoot best... not what sounds the coolest or what everybody else thinks.

I prefer to shoot .40, I also love the increased perceived recoil (snappiness) and can follow up just as fast as anybody on a 9mm in most cases faster. I am pretty sure that practice makes that issue a mute point.

It will always comes down to shot placement.. No mater the argument..
