No, I don't believe so.

The guide rod head is centered inside the locking block when the xd is assembled, so it's not going anywhere. Just make sure you put it back together the right way.

Same thing happened to me once about a month after I got my xd9 service model. Tried like hell to disassemble it with no luck. So I sent it in the SA, they fixed it and had it back to me within a week. Plus, no charge
If you haven't taken care of it yet, I would send it back to SA. They are very fast and its better than damaging the gun by forcing it. BTW, this is my first post, this site has been a great source of info for me since I bought my xd and I couldn't stay away. Thanks all. |

First pull out the trigger block retaining pins. That will allow some working room them try moving the slide.

Boy, this sticky saved my butt last night!
I just got the stainless guide rod in the mail (from XD Guys--fast shipping), and went to install it. Could not get the slide back on. Now I have to try taking it down to see if the thing will come apart with the new rod (I heard that can be an issue, too). |

Hate to say it, but "me too"
This link saved my butt.
Had the exact same situation happen to my XD40 Service after another fun session at the range. I recall reading about this here, and also recall the "sticky" on this forum. Came home, fired up computer, came straight here, and solved the issue. I simply lined up the slide with the frame, pulled the trigger, and the slide and malaligned guide rod assembly came right off. Realigned, reassembled, function-tested, and viola! Done! Thanks to all who contributed. |

Apparently it's not just the guide spring being off center that can do this. Any downward pressure on the ejection port by your hand when racking the slide back can cause the barrel to pop down and jam under the block which is what happened to me.

I tried and tried to duplicate this "malfunction" and could not! How the heck do you guys do that? It must be like some people can roll their tongues inside out and others can't or something.
