WOW, finally a good enough picture to see what all the fuss has been about when others brings this topic up ...
If agalindo's method doesn't work, Get a rubber, or plastic faced (ONLY) hammer, hold the gun upside down, and smack it sharply in the slide I.E. top of the slide (Where the round symbol is). Kinetic energy should cause the barrel to pop out of it's trapped location. FYI: This same method can be used to remove the extractor. But in this case ... You are holding the slide upside down and striking the portion that fits over the frame. Best of luck!!

Agalindo, your link to the "Fix for Slide Stuck" has pictures that were identical to what I experienced. However, after banging with no success I called SA and spoke to John. He advised me to 1) point the gun at the ground holding about 3 inches above the ground. 2) take a crescent wrench and open it slightly to fit around the skinny part of the guide rod. The side of the wrench should sit on the dime sized end of the guide rod. The end of the wrench can rest on the ground. 3) While holding the gun grip (gun not touching the ground), stike the crescent wrench with a hammer, forcing the guide rod forward. VOILA! Sqeeze the trigger and move the slide forward and off.
The culprit is not perfectly aligning the guide rod upon reassembly of the slide/barrel/guide rod. It was slightly off center. The link referenced above by Agalindo has great pictures of a misaligned guide rod. Thanks to everyone who assisted here. My XD is now functional again. |

mavro,
Yes absolutely thank you for posting the SA fix. I reported your post and requested that it become a sticky. Probably not the real intention of reporting a post ... But I agree with agalindo .. It needs to be stickied.

Son of a beotch. The same thing happened to me last week on the new XDm, The same exact picture, everything you said, I did, put it all together correctly and bam...stuck and won't budge. Barrel slid foward on me. No lie. I don't get it.
I called cust serv. They put me in touch with a guy named Buck in Tech Support. They were very concerned and supportive and wanted to see it. They wanted that gun back desparatley for fear of a major flaw in the gun. They said they had a problem with other XD's but they thought they re=engineered the new XDm to not happen again. Oh well, back to the drawing board I guess. They paid for me to ship it back last friday. I am waiting now to get back to me. No charge to fix. Don't mess with it. Send it to Buck now is my suggestion.

Did you get your XDM back yet or hear anything from Buck on the problem? I am curious as I am thinking of buying a new XDM-40 but if they have to iron some problems out I would rather wait until the "Problem" is fixed or Re-Engineered Thank You Moon Doggie |

Got it back last week from SA, , good as new. I expected something for my trouble but nothing, just the gun but not a scratch on it.
Talking to Scott Springer yesterday about holsters and stuff and he said you just got to be a bit careful putting the slide back on and suggests doing it with the sights down on a table so the barrel does not slide forward. Don't let that bother you, Get the gun, its a nice piece, just a bit different than my other hand gun, the easy to put together HK-40 Compact. I really need help with a left handed holster though if anyone can suggest one. I am still thinking of the SERPA but don't know if it will fit the "M": Trying to find one I won't have to re-mold through heating and such and can be used for everyday at the range, and to get into "Production and/or Limited" shooting locally. I know the gun will need some tweaking but can't do anything at the range without a holster either. Any help anyone.....?

Do y'all mean to tell me that if I don't properly reassemble my XD it's not going to function properly? Christ, what, do they expect, personal responsiblity to go hand in hand with firearm ownership and maintennance?

If I have the guide rod completely centered when reassembling, is there any way it could come out of place at a given time and do this?
