Xd Vs. Xd-m

Hi Guys, I'm a newbie to this fine forum. I have seen some post on here as well as various others regarding the XD-M. A lot of people don't like it and prefer the original XD. Some upset that the design has been changed and many were not going to by a Springfield again.

Correct me if I'm wrong, the XD-M is indeed an updated model with it's own name, designation, title, etc. But I believe that Springfield still plans to make the regular XD version as well as the XD-M and the consumer can make his or her choice as to which XD that they want?

Correct. The only XD-M is the .40S&W caliber, 4.5" barrel, and 16 round mag. All the other XD variants are still being produced/sold.

The market changes, new products come out, new customers come into the market, and Springfield as well as everyone else must change to keep up. Otherwise, we would still be driving black fords and shooting single action revolvers. However, a lot of people don't like change of any type and thank goodness most don't work in R & D! I've had a couple of XD's and today I traded my 9mm 4" service for a new XD-M. I could not be happier with what I did. It is different in looks and in feel, but after shooting today, it is the same 100 per cent reliable pistol I came to know and love, only BETTER! Now, I want colors and different calibers and I will revamp my entire XD pistol collection.

That is what I have heard.

I looked at one a couple weeks ago. Many minor improvements. Nothing that makes me want to sell off my XD and get this, though.

Its a great gun if you want a full size pistol in .40 S&W... I dearly hope they (or someone else) makes a .357 Sig barrel for it.

It's called innovation or good old yankee know how, innovation built this country. Gun owners are pretty opinionated and espress ignorant views when a manufacture comes out with a new product.

The XD was designed and manufactured in Crotia as the HS2000. SA picked it up a few years ago and has been building on the HS2000 success and design. The XDm is one of the best leaps forward by SA that combines the best of the XD with new XDm improvements.

The most common complaints on the XDm are price and caliber. When people say they are not going to purchase products from someone because they came out with something new is well..... just plain stupid.

The XD line isn't going away any time soon the XDm is another option. You can bet the XDm will make a big spash with the 9MM and .45.

Those who don't like it probably can't afford one or don't like change. When it's change for the better, well get over it. The "M" is a step up and thats that.

When I started thinking about the XDm and whether to buy it, I ran down the list of incentives...

- Comes w/paddle holster. Already got one.

- Match grade barrel. Could get one for $145. PISTOLGEAR | YOUR ONE-STOP SHOP FOR ALL SPRINGFIELD XD

- Higher capacity magazines. Could get almost as many rounds in a mag for $15 from this: PISTOLGEAR | YOUR ONE-STOP SHOP FOR ALL SPRINGFIELD XD

- Trigger improvements. Welcome to Springer Precision would be preferable.

So I could spend $700ish on a new XD or I could spend $300ish on making the one I got just about as good. HSProduct's biggest competition here is their own products.

Now for folks who don't already have XD's, the XDm is a great idea because you'll save a lot of money from the get-go (assuming the XDm doesn't drive the price of the XD40Service down -- which it might). But your mags won't be interchangable with the XD40SC like mine are. :P
