The new XD-M is a solid pistol. I have one and had been waiting for springfield to come out with an XD platform that I and many others could use to compete in USPSA Limited division. I really believe that SA has a winner on there hands with this one. i have a service XD in .40 that I use for USPA production and IDPA ESP. I really like both pistols and don;t understand whay so many are getting upset.

Someone called up SA and said they don't currently have plans for a 9mm or .45 ACP XDm. Can't recall who it was, but it's on one of the XDm threads in here. So it'll probably be a year before we see it from SA. Drop-in barrels are another story, though I'm not sure if the mags would work with other cals.

If it sells, I don't doubt they'll make more calibers. Basically it's a high-end XD, just like the 1911 GI vs. MilSpec vs. Loaded. The best thing about the XDm IMO
is the 16 round capacity. Ya don't get that in .40 very often.

Springfield told me yesterday when I called that the other calibers will be coming in 2009 or later. No other than .40 through 2008

Correct me if I'm wrong, the XD-M is indeed an updated model with it's own name, designation, title, etc. But I believe that Springfield still plans to make the regular XD version as well as the XD-M and the consumer can make his or her choice as to which XD that they want?
Correct. The XDm is just a new product line. The original XDs are still being manufactured.
Springfield and their Croatian partners have a very good thing going with the original XD line. It still sells very good. I personally just bought a new XD 9mm Tactical with night sights. I like it so much I am not going to buy the Glock just now. Down the road yes.
XDm is just a new model for sporting or Law.
Every one who is freaking out over this is doing so for no reason.

Yeah if they squeezed 16 .40 in there, I'll be interested to see what they do with .45 and 9mm. Perhaps next year I'll find the need for adding another full-sized polymer... gotta get a 1911 and a sub compact first tho

Looks to me like they designed the XD-M from the ground up to be a 40 S&W, rather than modifying a 9mm, as was done on the original XD-40. Which explains the capacity increase.

Personally, I don't see a need to expand the "M" series to 9mm and 45acp, as they already have a balanced package double stack pistol in each. If they do, I'm betting it will be mostly cosmetic, dealing with the slide, and retaining the original magazines.

But then I'm only an Armchair Commando, with no "Top Secret, Burn Before Reading" info.

I would personally love to see them do a 9mm. From what I have heard the 9mm will hold 21 rounds which sounds to me like they are designing all the XDm's from the ground up.

If the XDm isn't out in 9MM anytime soon the purchase of one gets pushed back to late next year. I've got a new fund started called SCAR Heavy Standard for next year.

I'll give a +1 to that
