Hi, This is my first post.I just got my first XD about 3 weeks ago and have questions on holsters concerning wear on the guns finish and frame, this is my first polymer frame gun. Do the plastic holsters that are so popular cause more wear to the finish/frame of the gun compared to a leather holster? Buy the way the XD is a XD40SC for carry.
Thanks |

It's a personal preference. With my s/c I use a leather pocket holster. With one of my larger guns(Sig or Glock) I like the Kydex(plastic). I also have a Kydex on order for my s/c but don't know how much I'll use it as I bought that gun strictly for going in my pocket. I have heard that leather will keep moisture on metal after a period of time(this is heresay as I have left my old S&W 459 in a leather holster for about a decade now and never seen any rust on it yet).

By the way, as far as wear I have not seen any wear on my Sigs from the Kydex holsters other than on the trigger guard which surprised me.

with enough draws from a holster wear will occur with either type |

Wear is unavoidable with either type. Holster wear adds character.

Bob's right. It won't matter what you decide on both will cause the gun to show wear becuase of the abrasive nature of the draw and reholstering. Some leather comes lined with very soft materials and that will delay the inevitable wear more.

For me it's a plastic holster for plastic guns, leather for metal guns.
btw, if you use the thing at all you will most likely get more wear on the gun parts OUTSIDE the holster. My old XD-9 has very little finish on the outside corner of the rear of the slide.

I use a Don Hume iwb leather holster for everyday carry and a polymer Blackhawk holster for USPSA. Two totally different holsters for two different functions. And after a year there is not one single wear mark from either holster.
