Is the frame size the same on a XD40 between 4" slide and the 5" tactical model?
Hypothetically speaking if the frame size on a XD is the same, could you swap out the slide between the 4" service model and the 5" tactical (no change in caliber and no swaping parts between the slides)?

From what I understand the answer is Yes/No. It depends who you talk to.

Yes, I did it last weekend. The frames on the XD .40 and 9mm Service and Tactical are exactly the same. Call Springfield and ask them what the difference is and they will say nothing. They don't even stamp the caliber on the frames for a reason. The XDM is different and the Sub Compacts are different, but If you have a 9mm Sub and .40 Sub you can swap those also. I took a HS2000 9mm 4 inch upper (slide, barrel, guide rod) and put it on my .40 Tactical and ran about 500 rounds through it on Sunday without one hiccup. Your milage may very, but I don't see why. .45 are also intercangeble with other .45's.....

The frames are the same on the situation you described. I have swapped service slide for tactical slide several times.
Have fun!
