Looks like I might need this sooner than I thought. A year and a half of everyday carry of my 40SC has worn the finish off the left rear corner of the slide, and with the abnormally high humidity we are having here in AZ, I've noticed it's rusting a little.

James, what colors are show in the pics? I'd like to get somehting as close to stock as possible. I don't like the black slide with the trueglows on it. It's too glossy and textured.

Turbo the texture helps cut the Glare the black shown is Matte Black, and the grey slide is Parkerize color. Also the texture you really cant feel it.
I can order what ever color you want from the Lauer website try here to look at options.
http://www.lauerweaponry.com/duracoa...k&Category=220

Maybe something like SOCOM, combat black or a dark grey like colt Grey

Here are some pics. Here is a chromed xd Sub and the control parts done in Stainless Durakote.

Small control parts before.

Small parts after, The pins are only done at the tips so the coat does not mess with the trigger pull, this leaves the pivot points smooth feeling. Also Notice the trigger this would be a nice time to add on a smooth face.

Nice!

Update:

Yesterday, I put 500 rounds through my beautiful little girl.. (Not my daughter... the pistol! I know what you were thinking!!!)

She did very well (Corina and the pistol.)

The finish is holding up.. I must say though that the bi-tone style finish does a bit too good of a job showing me where the thing is getting dirty! LOL.. That is a good thing though.. my gun cleaning habits are going to need to be a little more meticulous.

The arrow is pointing at that "thingy" (it is not on the parts list, so I don't know the name..) The finish has been completely removed.. but this is expected.

In this photo, you will see the progressive wear of the finish on the barrel. This too was expected.

In this last photo.. you can see that she cleaned up nicely! Two areas that I did not expect to show wear on the finish are pointed out... the arrow on the slide chipped off while I was cleaning the pistol. The arrow on the barrel chipped off sometime during shooting.

In the 500 rounds I shot, I suffered no FTF, or FTE.. the Gun performed very well.. I did have two incidents where the pistol failed to lock open when the magazine emptied... I have not figured out the cause of this, but I don't think it has anything to do with the finish... it's just never happened to me before..

I will update again after the next 500 round session.

Raymond

Captain I was wondering if you would let me use your pictures of the wear. I needed something that shows why I am only going to do the outside of the slide and no barrels.

Of course you can.. that was our deal.. consider anything I post in this thread as yours to use as you please.. I think "proprietary" is the right word..

I will give you an honest criticism, which is why I figured you asked me in the first place.

I am really trying to abuse the pistol... I want to see what happens to her... I am sure you and everyone else is kind of interested to see what happens too!

James,
Thanks for the info.
The front sight on the Mil-spec is pinned, not dove tailed.
I should probably have it removed and milled out before we digicamo!...and we WILL digicamo!
Therefore, it may be a bit more than a month or so until I have enough cash to get it done. (I had to ask the minister of finance (AKA Mrs. So Flo) very nicely to allow me to buy the 1911 before I actually saved the money this time, so I have to pay it back by the end of the year.)
