So, I'm picking up my new XD tonight
and I have yet to pick out a safe. I looked at a few at Bass Pro today just to get an idea of what type of safe I may want, but nothing said buy me. I don't want anything big. Just big enough for the XD and magazines,, but easily accessible. Anyone have any suggestions?

You may want to get something with room to grow.
Do you want fire protection or just security? Stack-on seems to be a good value. |

I don't think I want anything that big. At most maybe big enough for 2 handguns and just for security. Later down the road when I get my bigger toys I'll get something bigger. But right now I just want something to keep the little one from getting his hands on it. |

Gander Mountain has a pretty nice digital/key one gun lock box for around $60. The door is spring loaded so it really flies open. This is a big plus in a home defense situation.

Forgot to add that eBay has some decent buys on small safes/lock boxes.

I've been very happy with my Sentry electronic fire safe I got form Wal-Mart for $160 I believe. 1.2 cubic feet. weighs about 100lbs give or take a few.
Supposed to keep the internal temperature below 350*F for an hour or two in any fire. Water resistant seal, safe for media as well. I have my XD, 400rnds, some documents, thumb drive, credit cards, checks and a lot of space for more things left in it. EDIT: Here's a link Walmart.com: Sentry Fire- and Water-Resistant 1.2 cu. ft. Electronic Safe: Hunting ![]() Perfect size for a closet, I've had no problems out of mine what so ever. And you don't have to worry about paying shipping! I bought this one from the Wal-Mart online site last month:
DAC SportSafe Portable Gun Safe Reviews - Walmart.com It's $62.98; if you have it shipped to your local store there's no shipping charge. It has both an electronic combination (4 buttons times 6 presses) and keyed entry. It's large enough for my XD-9mm Service, a couple boxes of ammo, a few mags, an XD holster. You mount a plate to whatever surface you want to mount it to, then using studs that stick up though the bottom of the safe, affix the safe to the mounted plate. You can get multiple plates, such as one for your trunk, your home, etc. so you can move the safe between them. I wanted a safe that would offer me very quick access. It takes me about a second and a half to enter the combination, the door pops open, and I have access to my gun. I looked at a lot of safes before I bought this one. Others have described it as worth 3x the price, and I don't know about that, but it clearly was the best value, by far, that I could find. I'd buy another in a second. In fact, I might just get a second one.
