this will probably work. The brass rivets on my jeans were scratching mine. I cleaned it with some solvent and they came right off.

I have found that you can scratch the finish on the slide pretty easy regardless of what you do it with. My crossbreed holster put a scratch through the finish on my slide.

TERRY: Free of charge? Do they pay for shipping too, or would I just have to bring it to an authorized dealer to have it done, and then Springfield pays for it? When you sent yours to them, did you mail the whole gun, or just the slide?
I called them and they had me mail in just the slide. I paid the postage and had it insured. I figured it was worth the eight bucks.

Well, that sounds good and I'll look into it!

I will also try rubbing it with some gun oil and a rag. Although I did this at another point where the dealer had put a sticker on it and I wanted to get the adhesive off that was left behind. It started getting a shiny silver color at that spot which led me to think that I was rubbing the finish off by rubbing too hard. I'll give it another try where the scratches are, and if the finish starts rubbing off, I'll just send it in for the new finish. I guess it would need it anyway.

Tell the service representative at SA how much you paid for shipping/insurance and they will reimburse you by check. It took about three weeks to get the check after they returned my slide.

I have carried my XDSC pretty hard and not a scratch on it! Now remember, to scratch metal a HARDER METAL has to scratch it. Y'all are probably seeing marks left from other objects, that will come off with a but of work with oil and a cloth (I prefer a silicone cloth).

I used one of the dental tools, dentist use to scratch tartar from gumlines (kinda like a hook, with a razor sharp edge) and it didn't scratch my finish at all... I used it to "scratch" out the crayola i used in the engravings....

It's a tool, not a work of art. Don't know any chicks anymore, so I can't say. I do know the things you do to get those scars really come back to haunt you later in life.

you are not able to seethe melonite finish as it is enbeded into the metal of the gun the black you see is not the melonite.
